Whose gone back to re-circ DVs - big difference!
When I first got my car I had it about 3 months before fitting an atmos DV. On Sunday I fitted a newage IC and newage DV (mine wouldn't fit).
I had every intention of buying a DV that would fit the IC but although I miss the noise, the smoothness of the car more than outways the noise loss.
Its soo much easier to drive. No shunting or jerkyness in town or on part throttle. Easier gear change without the occasional thump (blip the throttle on downshift anyway but the misses used to struggle)
Just all round nicer drive.
However, the chav in me misses the noise but I wanted the comp surge noise rather than the single TSSSH noise so no big loss. Pops and bangs have stopped but after it was mapped it only did it occasionally.
So all round quite happy to have gone back to re-circ.
Anyone else ?

Its a bit big and I had intended on fitting a forge DV as its alot smaller in width but I'm just going to fiddle with the coil pack and IC height until it stops banging on the bulkhead.

I bought the IC, DV and newage brackets for £175 off fleebay. Bit off a mission getting it to fit a classic but happy with it and prefer not to chop the car to bits to get an FMIC to fit.

As soon as I installed my HKS DV I noticed the difference, going to be putting standard back on this weekend. £230 down the toilet.

I have a Forge recirculating DV on my Octavia - it also has a CAI. With the CAI you can hear the DV, without it being too "look at me, I'm a chav" noisy

I put a Turbosmart V-Port DV on MY00 but put the standard one back on within a week. I did'nt mind the noise as it was adjustable, but I felt it did'nt pull thru the gears as good, felt slower.

Now, although I still do it, it doesn't seem as though the thump is that noticeable if I don't get it spot on (hard to explain really)
Its not as much work. I don't miss the jerky-ness though. That was a real pain.

VTA add nothing apart from embarassing noises and a chav image.
In fact, they are actually bad for your car if you're still running on a MAF as the ecu "calculates" the amount of fuel to be added to the air that passes the MAF including the amount dumped through the OEM recirculating valve on gear changes, so when it's dumped to the atmosphere instead of back though the engine, the fuel to air ratio will be momentarily too rich - hence the lurch when changing gear with a VTA as the car runs too rich, plus more pops and bangs as the unburnt fuel ignites in the exhaust. That unburnt fuel can also borewash, i.e. get past the pistonrings into the sump, reducing the effectiveness of your oil which can lead to other problems over time.
original poster is spot on to get rid of it and top mappers, such as Bob Rawle, would agree.

Top post!
Your main paragraph is exactly the reason for going back to re-circ.
