Default BP Ultimate - Yikes

Had to fill up with BP Ultimate today for the first time since I got the car (an STi VI) 6 months ago. It has been mapped by Andy Forrest for Shell SUL but I've mainly been running it on Tesco Super as that's chaepest and nearest.

Anyway with a full tank of BP, my detalarm has been lit up like a Christmas tree whenever I put my foot down. Have been really gentle all the way home. Didn't really expect to to be that bad. Tesco for me from now on.

You have to laugh .......... you have a car which can only be driven on fuel from a certain petrol station else the silly lights come on on your dash board.

How stupid is that?

Slightly off topic
Was in the wifes 206 last weekend and filled up at a BP and as i was putting in NUL at 84.9p per litre i noticed they had SUL (not ultimate) at a reasonable 104.9 p per litre

Not really Gary, it's just that BP ultimate is a very poor fuel!

Isn't it a shame when respected members of this site turn into trools.

Would appear that the more laps of the Nurburgring you do the bigger **** you turn into.

i filled a 10a up with ultimate a few times, even tho it was mapped for shell optimax, the knock lite was green which is what its ment to be but after planting it a bit it started to over boost defis beeping left right and centre and knocklink lights were all over the shop, luckly enough that 10a was gone by the time i drove ten miles to tescos never seen a different colour light scince

ultimate can be a very good fuel, and it canbe crap. the problem is its not a very controlled mixture of fuel and addatives, so if you get a batch with high addatives it can be better than vpower, get a batch with low addatives and it crap stuff and no much better than norm unlead.

the problme lies in the fact the mix it at the station, not at the production plan like shell, so the mix isn't always the same.

Are you sure about this? It sounds incredible (bad!) if it's true!

I think some of the problem could be BP's poor labeling of the fuel in forecourts as mentioned in previous posts the are different rated Ulimate fuels out there, from memory I think its UL(95 oct.) Ultimate(97oct.) and a top spec Ulitimate100(100 oct.) it is ok for modded scoobs but very expensive, if you think you are getting 100 and only getting 97 this will cause problems.

Bull they dont mix it at the station... But there has been a lot of problems with BP recently as there have been reports that the Station owners have been adding Water into the Ultimate storage tanks to make more profit.

This has been recently highlighted on PH when a chap filled up with Ultimate and car broke down 500 yards up the road. The fuel analysis carried out by the dealership showed that the fuel was 70% water.

90% of BP stations are Franchise as the bottowline profit has reduced on fuel sales they have resorted to using underhanded tactics to make more profit and it seems that adding water to fuel os one of them.

As a first more positve post on ultimate: my ppp'ed wrx seems to like it more then others available in my area. There is no optimax here, so I can choose esso or total, and with the ultimate runs much better. I have no knock retard on my machine though

I have been using BP Ulitmate for a while and am not impressed with the performance. The only problem is the nearest Shell garage is 25 miles away !
I have an Esso garage near by, does anyone have any comments about Esso Supreme ? Is it any good ?

Is it the lower RON level that is causing this amount of problems? Or the additives in the fuel? Does Ultimate + Octane Booster still set your knock sensors off?

I find esso supreme quite good, not spectacular but I find it consistant, its my 3 / 4 choice behind tesco, and vpower, after them its either total or esso

Knock Correction on the SECS display is nothing to do with Knock activity you see on your knocklink.
