Astra vxr and my wrx
Before I start this thread i'd like to mention this wasn't a race, it was not in the wet, we were rollling i.e not from a standstill and there were no twisties involved.
Pulled off a roundabout today and floored my standard 2003 wrx, I didn't notice a car behind me but I looked to the right of me and a car was slowly overtaking me. It was only a flippin astray vxr. Just to let u no these are pretty nippy in the dry, when rolling and when there are no twisties.

Sorry didn't see the 2003 bit in the first post. A girl I work with has a Astra VXR and says the problem with it is getting the power down and the resulting torque steer can be a handfull if you are not ready for it.

The thing that surprised me was when coming off the roundabout the road curved round pretty sharpish so couldn't of struggled that much to get the power down. Might go and have a test drive of one for a laugh. I bet they are good for dropping a cog for overtaking on single carriageways.

That's the weight of a small star ... if this were true the VXR would be pretty slow & it clearly isn't.

Astra of course has better aerodynamics, less transmission losses, a 6 speed box and torque coming a lot lower than the scoob, there's plenty of obvious reasons why it can upset a standard WRX whilst rolling.
On a dry road, unless you're launching, cornering at the limit whilst trying to accelerate, or squirting out of very tight stuff, they'll put the power down fine.
Checking Courtenay's website, they're talking 260+bhp for just a £550 remap, and 280+bhp for full exhaust and remap, and I don't believe their figures are as optimistic as some - so yes, they're pretty easily tunable

Standard 03 wrx has 225bhp, awd losses inclusive it's bound to be slower than a 240bhp fwd car. The VXR steering wheel is awesome, 1,000,000% better than the bus like steering wheel of my 03 blob eye!

Us MY03 owners need to start fiddling with our cars a bit more these days.
This current crop of "Hottus Hatchi" are becoming quicker and quicker.
Earlier this year on the way to Goodwood, again whilst rolling, I had one of the new Golf GTi's pull away from me quite noticeably around 50/60mph+ Mind you, I did have my air conditioning on, a full tank, two occupants and it was a warm day....lol!!

Gross weight is the maximum weight the car is designed to cope with - which is probably your 1750KG figure.
EDIT: Yup - 1750Kg is the gross weight for a classic. Subaru Impreza FAQ
