Default Performance comparison

This could well turn out to be a daft question, but i recently sold my 94 WRX and bought a MK5 Golf R32 with the DSG gearbox, 250PS with 4wd. My question is, they both have 4wd and as near as damn it the same power, so why did my scooby feel so much quicker?

How many miles have you done in the Golf and how many had your Scooby done ?

I had a V6 4motion a few years ago and after about 18K it began to loosen up nicely and was much quicker.

My 10K mile S2000 was absolutely murdered by another S2000 with over 50K on it - both cars completely standard but the difference seemed like he had a 3L engine in his not 2L !

The R32 seemed very linear in delivery to me - the Scooby has the usual turbo pull which always seems quite good - doesn't make it quicker overall though .....

Just my thoughts FWIW.

The R32 has 700 miles on it and scooby had 54k. I thought that the linear torque curve would make the difference as with the turbo. Guess time will tell. Cheers

Has to loosen up yet that's for sure, either way I wouldn't expect an R32 to be that quick, and linear power delivery will just make it feel that bit slower.

Think i am convusing myself - the linear torque curve was refered to the scooby - thought this was the name given to the ability it has to continue to accelerate harder and harder the higher the revs get!

Yes, but its that non-linear surge of torque as the turbo spools that makes a turbo car feel so fast, even though you can be technically faster in the other car

Big lazy 6-pot engine - that's the problem! They have a miuch more refined power delivery and don't produce any drama, they just pile on speed without fuss. Much like a 6-pot BM. Also, the Audi TT3.2 is no where near as loved as the 2.0T 'cos it is no quicker!

Doesn't it need running in for atleast a 1000miles before you start hammering it anyway?
When its properly ran in and loosened up a bit it may feel quicker.
