ok i was without a subaru for nearly 2 months after mr wrx started dyeing, and mr diesel stepped in as a last minute substitution. but i "couldnt takes it no more". now i may get flamed, but im happy in the end. i managed to get a credit card (first one ever actually) and was amazed when the a.p.r. came back lower than a loan i was previously refused. anyway enough about my personal finances. i had 4.5k to play with and wanted a decent example, preferably near to standard as possible and a uk model for insurance purposes.
i was having a mooch around cars on 'net, and various insurance companies. i spotted the scoob donny_daz had for sale. he seemes genuine enough and a good guy on the phone. car had lots of historty etc, new block at 70k miles (ok high mileage at 120k currently) but car was in decent condition for the mileage. only problem was, however, the insurance. my last wrx was worth around only £3000. this car however was 4 years younger, and valued at £3800-3900, due to said high mileage.
i was getting quotes around £3000-3200 and wasnt prepared to fork that out considering il have 1 year ncb in june next year. so i was following the route of maybe getting a old "skool" warm/hot hatch like a 205 gti etc. but... then... mr daz from donny, he sent me a link to a insurance company who were supposed to be reputable. ecarinsurance ltd i think. anyways 5 mins down the line on tinternet, got my quote, and after wiping a cup of tea off the monitor, i checked to see my details were correct.
yep, everything cushty, all above board. all "little" things inc like legal expenses etc. the quote you ask... £1741.45 fully comp but with a £500 excess. now considering my position and circumstances, that was a bloody good price. on my first sport through tesco i payed £1510 tp f&t, so without gaining any ncb and having been driving less than 9 months a £230 increase isnt too bad a result.
i expect one or two comments like "you should wait and build upto a subaru" and "your too young" etc, but my first two cars were scoobs, and i know im not an excellent driver as yet. im gonna take it easy, warm her up cool her down, treat her to shells fineat every week, and rub her down more than the missus.
so im back in business, went to darrens place yesterday (nice place him and his mrs have) and did some business. he was honest enough to say he bought the car for less, due to a desperate seller, but for £3800 i have a 7 year old car with a 50k old engine, and all it really needs are some new front discs etc, which will be a new year jobby. as for now im revelling in being the proud owner of a sexy red scoob, thats totally legit, plently of history etc, and it brings me to the good times of 6 months ago.
oh and it goes like stink compared to my crappy pug, which is for sale now to some one willing to part with around £500-600 sterling
comments welcome
