Default PPP owners and BP Ultimate...

So, having done a bit of research on here it would seem that from the 3 'main' Hi-Ron fuels available (those being V-Power, Tesco99 and BP Ultimate), the one I have been using (BP Ultimate 97) seems to be the least recommended for Impreza's...

That being the case, have any PPP owners had problems with this fuel? What seems to work best with the Prodrive map etc?...

Sorry, but you have only listed 2 "Hi-Ron" fuels there. The third is something I wouldn't even put in my old beemer, which thrives on both V-Power and Tesco99.

Hi Zen, is it THAT bad? Sheesh, I feel so dumb now as I was lead to believe that 97ron was fine with the PPP. Makes me wonder how much better the car may feel with some decent stuff then!

This forum is very useful

What does it say in your user manual, or the inside of your fuel cap? Mine says to use 98RON.

My classics engine light came on when I used Ultimate in it (UK standard car) Diagnostic at dealers showed poor fuel as the culprit. Use Tesco or V Power in my WRX PPP. Tried Sainsbury 97 once in it and it ran ok but not as smoothly as with the other 2. Manager at Sainsbury says its BP Ultimate

Mmmm, not heard of that mate, not near any Jet stations though I don't think.

Out of interest, can someone define 'knock' please? Without having a knocklink, how do you know when something ain't right?

Engine knocking - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Without a knocklink you may never know until its too late. If you can hear det from the drivers' seat, it's severe and probably about to reduce your engine to its component parts

Nothing wrong with BP Ultimate as long as your cars mapped correctly.

I admit, you can't dial in as much advance.

I pass a BP garage on my way to fill up with V Power, BP Ulimate is normally 2-3p dearer.

I wouldn't use BP ultimate. Heard too many bad things about it from prominent tuners. V power is the way to go!

I have always used esso sul97 with ppp firstly and then was mapped by tsl for the 333 conversion and its as smooth as anything.

Runs a little bit sharper on vpower after a few tankfulls when the ecu learns, but tbh as my nearest shell is 25mil round trip and the esso is 800yds away no point for me.

V Power or Tesco 99 for me. BP Ultimate has an immediate effect of reducing the advance multiplier because of increased likelihood of knock and winds out engine advance. both of these have the effect of recuing power. BP is also dearer around me... figure that

Used to use Ultimate occasionally on 03STiPPP. Seemed to run a little rougher but fuel consumption was markedly better. There's something funny about this stuff, the fuel consumption suggests there's more energy in it but this seems to have adverse effects on knock activity. Pat the mapper reckons its something to do with the way it atomises, he recommends Shell.

Car now remapped for Shell so I don't touch the stuff.

You'll get another 20 bhp by using V Power as opposed to 95 ron.

I have found the Esso Supreme much better than BP's finest so if i cant get to V-Power or 99 Tesco thats my next choice.

Remember it'll take a few tankfulls for the ecu to learn to make full use of v-power.

Alternatively, run as low as possible before filling up with v-power then reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery neg. for 20-30 mins. That way you should notice a difference straight away..

(and yes, newage ECU's can be reset this way, well my 05 can..!)

No need for an ecu reset in newage cars I believe.

Well Bob R said they still take a few tankfulls, so that's good enough for me.. Also it's 10 seconds with a 10mm spanner, go and have a cuppa, come back connect up and enjoy.. (takes longer to reset clock and radio lol.)
