In the market for a forward facing seat (son now old enough to get the full view forward), has anyone got any recommendations? He's only 7 months/18 lbs and not yet big/old enough for the Recaro seat (clocked that one already).

MYOO UK 4 door

Cheers

Tang - you are probably safer using a rear facing seat for as long as possible (Until their legs get too long, which generally happens in a matter of seconds ) Lucy (9 months 26lbs (fatty)) still reverses everywhere. Check out Which magazine for ease of use and safety records, but Brittax usually do well in these tests. We moved Emma into a front facing seat at about 11 months, but her head still tended to flail about under normal braking and cornering.

We really like the Britax range - Eclipse we got I think. Always does well in tests and holds the nipper in well enough.
Mothercare/Halfords etc have em. Lasted till sprog was just over 2, then we swapped. (All covers came off easily for post-puke cleans )

Looked at the Recaro, but didn't like the fact that is uses the car inertia belt to secure both the seat and the child.

So went fot a Red/Blue Maxi-Cosi Recliner that had it's own 5-point harness for the child and secures to the car using the inertia belt and a sturdy belt clip.

Not a bad base on it either, so won't mark the seats too much.

Also came with head cushions and had £15 off in Mothercare (Normally £105 I think).

Question

This is a real dilemma for me at the mo. My daughter is 6 months and 18lb, and is very tall(long). She keeps trying to sit up in the rear facing seat as she has my wife's nosey genes.

She also has sussed out how to undo the belt, however she has n't got the strength to press the release button(and hopefully it has been made so she never will)

Been thinking about forward facing, but maybe she's too young!!, she may be unsuitable for a forward face, but there again is she now unsuitable in a rear?

Mattw,

Have used a forward facing before with our boy, and he is about the same dimensions as your little girl. He loved it - that's what convinced me to get one. If you've got a mate with one then give it a try you might be surprised.

Cheers

Matt,

Go ask at Mothercare or somesuch place, they go on child weight and wether they can hold their head up on their own rather than age.

Once heard (some where on the grape vine) that Subaru offer a kids seat in matching trim to that of your 'Scoobs'.

Not sure how much truth there is in this, but I too will be in the market for a seat in the near future, and thought this would be quite cool.

Shouldn't use a forward facing seat until the child can sit (on the floor) unsupported for an unlimited amount of time.

I think it's all to do with ensuring they have strong neck and back muscles.

Britax eclipse we`ve got, his highness whent in it early as he hated his M&P shopping basket! seriously go to mothercare and try a few in the car, i assume their to go in the scoob dont get one too big that it will be hard to fit through door, also the britax freeway has a metal plate in the bottom that can be pulled in place to tighten the seatfit this will make a very deep indentation on your back seat if leater could cut a hole as circular bit is metal. eclipse works well but you`ve got to loosen harness with hand thru both straps or it will jam, something they dont mention when you buy and you keep wondering why the thing jams. (tip)place a car seat cover on the back and permanent carseat wont cause slight rub marks on interior.
