the guy who told me has been there almost every weekend through the summer for the last 10 years

he did also i might be ok if i keep the revs down untill im on the ring and out of site. as they often dont check you unless your sitting reving before going on.

You could be lucky, you could be un-lucky. There is a 95db limit on the ring. I would suggest you take a bung (not bribe) with you as it's a long way home if you get thrown out without completing a lap..........

As a note they don't test every vehicle but they DO test randomly.

affraid its for a classic , dont really want to use a bung, ive heard it doesnt do remapped cars much good, cant imagine it doing non-remapped cars much good either

thats bow-locks my good chum, a bung merely makes the car run slightly richer than normal which is no bad thing what you hooning it round a track.....

mapped or otherwise hth.

my tsl full decat passed random test this year at the ring so yours should be fine unless stupidly loud or if you rev it in carpark-they have a low chav tolerance level

i went this august and i had a magnex back box and decat pipe so not that

loud and was fine, another classic scooby went with full decat and loud exhaust.

just make sure u keep it on tick over at the barriers then creep though them

and just start nailing it once u get near the first bridge. thats what is

suggested by most people and works

In my experience, thats partly true. They do check a lot of cars that they know will pass; but people twatting about and obviously excessively loud exhausts get checked too. When you consider that a Nur-Spec exhaust is about as loud as you can get Id suggest that travelling all that way would be foolish without a big bung at the very least. Id fit a different exhaust. As for the the Vortex, whats the quoted sound level? The posted 'Ring limit is 95dB but there seems to be an unofficial limit of about 100 dB...

Thats nearly double* the perceived sound volume!

Simon

*sound pressure doubles every 3dB but perceived volume doubles every 6dB.....

If it sounds loud, it IS loud. Here's a true story, so bear this in mind. I went over with my old turbocharged Clio 16v which I ran a pretty short 3" bore side pipe on. Was really only a track and weekend car. Anyway, went over to the 'Ring Saturday night, got there in time for one quick run in the pouring rain before they closed at 6pm. Went back to the hotel for the night. Next day we all convoyed down, parked up ready for the track opening, and the track marshal made a beeline for me with his dB meter. They'd clocked me the night before and already heard the noise. Got a reading of 102 dB at a metre away from the pipe, which was basically game over. He actually said if it had been 100 or just less he could have given me some leeway, but it was well over 100 so no 'Ring for me. Luckily a mate who was there as well, who was a regular, used Ring Racing a lot, and took me over there, he managed to get me squeezed in for an urgent Sunday morning exhaust modding session. This involved measuring up the pipe exit, cutting up a piece of plate metal with a hole the size of a £2 coin in it, tacking it in place, and then going back to the 'Ring. It only JUST passed at 94.5 dB IIRC. And after three laps the back pressure overheated the turbo and it blew its water connection as well as burning out my main wiring loom, just before the F1 circuit, leaving me a EUR 180 towing charge to get me off the 'Ring.

So in my experience, don't even think of going over unless you've a sensible exhaust in place. If it sounds loud, it most likely is, and to be fair, people do LIVE there so no wonder they have to have limits. Get yours checked out with a dB meter if you can find it. The guidelines they had were they ask you the rev limit, ask you to hold it at half that and point the meter at your pipe from a meter away, or it could be half a metre, I can't quite remember. Either way it's pretty strict.
