I thought most would say type r. I want one but i do a fair amount of miles so i managed to find a mint uk with very very low miles.

Most of the type Rs ive seen have done over 40k and are about 8 years old. Mines 6.

I know i may have to compromise on something though if i want one.

Just wondering what other people think.

If you do a lot of miles then don't waste a Type R on them

Get a Type R for the weekend and a diesel for the miles

Fuel economy doesnt bother me. Its just reliability and whether I'd be mad selling a MY00 with 24K ont clock for an older and probably higher mileage Type R.

And i use it every day for work so it would need to be reliable.

I wanted a type R for age's got one and love it

BUT and it's a big one motorways and type r's do not mix very well and if you do lots of miles you should consider a gearing change to a longer final drive. I do a 80 mile round trip to work in mine (only ony on a saturday!) and see oil temps rise when holding constant uk motorway speeds. I will have to fit an oil cooler and report back but I don't like to hold the engine at that high revs for long cruises and find myself criusing at 60-70mph!

But on b roads the world is yours! mostly sidewards

Hmm. I do 80 miles a day on main A roads doing 60-70mph. Surely if i get a standard type r it would be ok?

I wondered if there were reliabilty issues with them. I have also noticed a lot have had rebuilds.

If you're doing mileage like that, then I'd say keep what you have either standard, or if you want more oomph spend about 2k on it. I have a uk my00 with 320 bhp.

Bit of a leading question i know. Just wondering generally. I'm looking at RB5s now. They're a bit different.

Only slightly different. Fog light covers, non folding rear seats, different wheels and one of the worst colours. Cue the masses of upset RB5 owners

i have a type r and do 500 miles a week, 50% motorway. Its an amazing car and to date I have had no problems, but it is regularly serviced and oil changed every 3000 miles. I won't call it a comfy journey, but its great fun and much rawer than the p1s I had before. Love the car and it been 100% reliable. Fuel consumption is not too bad - 22/25 - or about 270 miles to a full tank. Round town it drops a bit, but nothing too horrendous.

Better car than my evo8 fq330 on value for money - as quick, much better sounding and a third of the price.

Mines done 70000 miles and no probs at the moment.

Why not get a classic STi (ie, not the Type R). You get the better engine and most goodies without the short gearing of the Type R.

Same gearing as a P1 in fact

I had a typeR for three years and loved it. The 5th gear was a pain so I replace dit with the 5th from a UK car and bought the 4000rpm cruise speed up from 80mph to 90mph. Same as the V-limited Box.

Made all the difference,
