Question

Hi All,

At the risk of getting a barage of abuse ;-) Can anyone recommend a good "performance driving" course.

I had a bit of a "momment" the other day when the scoob swapped ends on some diesel. The end result was about a grands worth of damage.

I REALLY don't like that feeling of being a complete passenger when I'm driving.

I await the barrage :-)

Cheers

I don't think you actually deserve abuse.

Anybody prepared to admit defeat and say that maybe more training is required is one better than a lot of people.

I used to do Karting when i was younger and did an intro Advanced course but never anything professionally. Having fun in a Kart would even help and it's going do be even better if you can find an outdoor course.

We used to practise sometimes at a small track at Knockhill and they would provide waterproofs on those "damp" days.

Fun and educational

Can't help on the course but anybody who wants to improve their driving skills gets a big thumbs up from me.

If you find a good course please let me know.

Sorry to hear about this Gazza. You certainly don't deserve abuse and anyone that gives it is a tosser.

I know how you feel. I need some practice too. Knockhill have a skidpan that I need to get around to going on.

Hopefully we'll get snow again! I found a big car park last year and found it excellent to practice car control from induced slides. Your own private skid pan...

Didn't like the "lack" of brakes though

I went to the skid pan course at Thruxton - near you - about 18/12 ago which was very good for just the thing you are on about.

non ned to worry about abuse I m sue=re weve all done the same, i spun my old 205 gti 3 separate times on wet, oily roundabouts, never pranged it though I was very lucky.

Check out...

http://www.drivingdevelopment.co.uk/

...run by Don Palmer.

I have read loads of positve comments about Don's courses on scoobynet and I'd love to attend one. One day...

I have done three trackdays but realise that there is so much to learn, you are better off getting some proper training before you take too many chances out on the track.

I realised this when I stopped 2m short of the armco after a 70mph spin at Snetterton!

Cheers Stephen,

Did you use your own car or where some provided?

I've had a look at the site and it looks interesting. I think I'll give him a ring tommorow.

Cheers

Unhappy

Unlucky, Gazza. I recently had a serious understeer moment on diesel off a roundabout, went straight on when I should've been turning. Good job I wasn't on my bike.

Great instincts to go on a performance driving course, but sometimes (especially on diesel) even Richard Burns can't save it. :-(

Gazza, the Don Palmer courses involve you driving your own car, and are a good way of finding out just how easy it is to lose the car, and how little control you really have
