Default Dumb Question

This may sound like a stupid question but when recently asked if my 53plate WRX PPP had a dump valve i just shrugged my shoulders. They asked if it made a noise when changing gear i again shrugged and said not sure as i always have music on. Any ideas??

Yes it has a Dump valve, the Standard one is a recirulating type, dumps the excess pressure back into the induction.

The other Dump valve (VTA) dumps that presure to Atomosphere and makes an Annoying Psssh boy racer noise.

IMHO

Someone once told me that was bad for the turbo, any truth in that?

Most reckon a Recirc DV is better for the Turbo than a VTA type. I know some peeps have been Psshing for 30k and no problems. So the Jury is still out on that one

If you have an Induction kit, some you can hear the Psssh through the Air filter when a recirc DV dumps. I have always felt the Recirc DV caused a lot of Failed on the weaker MAF sensors on V5/V6's. So a VTA Dv may increase the life of the MAF! but will still annoy the hell out of you. IMHO

I still had the standard dumpvalve wastegate on mine when I bought it, it was so loud I thought it was an aftermarket one!

Sadly, I got the boy racer bug and bought a dumpvalve which is actually louder than the car lol, but I can turn it to fully re-circ which will stop the noise, which is a bonus!
