Thumbs up they dont all just want your cash!

i ordered a new set of tyres today but was unsure whether to go for the Avons or the Toyo Proxes T1-R's. i called the copmpany and asked their advise and was shocked.......they told me to go for the Avons. they were the cheeper option, i assumed they would tell me to get the dearer ones

apparently a lot of the Toyos have been returned, something to do with the 'shoulder' of the tyre not being too good

i paid £63 per tyre (£252 for the set) and free delivery. i am one happy bunny today

doesn't really bother them to be fair, they usually have similar markups but imo it was good advice. I cant comment on the proxes on a 4WD but after my experiences I wouldn't touch them and I'd have probably opted for avons over T1-R's myself if they were the two options available. I bought the toyos after everyone raved about them but they were w*nk! And yes the shoulder of the tyres always looked like it was scuffed and like it'd been skipping across the deck rather than gripping to it. They were HURRENDOUS in the wet on my escort and that was only 130 odd BHP with similar torque figures so hardly an animal!

Have you got someone to fit, balance and get rid of the old tyres for you because I noticed you said free delivery so it was probably mail order was it... just hope you don't get stung on fitting costs! Cost me £540 for my tyres on the merc at only 8000 miles old pile of sh*t car! lol

I had zz3's on my impreza. I I had to replace 2 of them on separate occasions due to a bubble forming on the inside tyre wall. Could have been bad luck. I switched to Yokohama Prada's and they have been great. Not so clever in the wet tho.

i will get mine on Tuesday because of the new year holiday, but i could get them tomorrow. i went for 215/40/17's what did you get?
if i had got them from anywhere else it would have cost me £100 extra

this is the first time i have replaced all four at once, hopefully i wont have to do it again for a while. i used Camskill as i got my clutch from them and they were easy to deal with and the cheapest

Sara, I went for the 225/40/18 's, got the 4 myself. with fitting i saved myself about £100 compared to anyone else. got them fitted and balanced for £10/wheel . i have had the ZZ3 's before on my old STi, had no probs with them at all. i did quite a bit of searching before i got them last time.

your wheels must take a hammering being 18's

cant wait to try mine out, its like getting new shoes

the website comes up a lot when you use google. the only thing you have to look out for is the 15% restocking fee if you return something

They could have just sold you the ones that made 'them' most money!
I have always found avon's far too hard.
Good luck with them though.
Have you fixed your door yet?

they were up to £20 cheaper than other websites and they had a discount, the Toyos didnt have any discount so they were the best deal around for sure
the door was being fixed when my car went in for a respray but it got too late to fit the car in before xmas so its going in on the 2nd Jan i think. i can shut it now but i have to push the glass down as i close it. the alarm goes off when its windy though

if you were pricing up the toyo t1-s's they gave good advice. I had a set and they worn soooo badly on the outer adges they only lasted 7000!

Since moved onto Eagle F1's and they are lightyears better both in terms of wear and grip

ditto this. ive got pirelli pzero's on at the moment, all wearing down quick, so i asked in the tyres section on here, found a deal on ebay (4 toyo t1r's for £260), but the size im getting is 215/40/17 compared to 205/45/17 which are on now.

i like toyos personally, want plenty of general grip, and jase at scoobybits speaks highly of them, and hes my lifestyle guru...

DONT DO IT!

i am going from 205/45/17 to 215/40/17 the Toyos for the bigger size are £69 per tyre and the Avons are £63. Camskill have given an extra £10 off the Avons making them cheaper and after reading how bad the Toyos are on this thread i have got the best deal

out of interest how much for P&P from ebay?

eBay.co.uk: 215/40/17 TOYO PROXES HIGH PERFORMANCE T1-S TYRE (item 150073096180 end time 30-Dec-06 16:56:25 GMT)

they are £65 each from the place i got mine so the complete price works out at £260 and free delivery

I've recently got some zz3s on my newage and they are a great tyre. Very good grip wet and dry, good wear, fairly quiet.
I found the F1s softer and wore much quicker but there was slightly more grip. Not a lot more but I can feel the avons sliding slightly earlier in the wet or dry, but not enough to make me think I made the wrong tyre choice. Overall I rate them, especially at the cheaper price.

I currently have ZZ3's on my wrx and I think they are a good tyre.
Great wear rate, good grip wet and dry and they let you feel a little slide as they gently let go at the edge.
The only downside is that they seem to tramline a touch more than the OE tyre (whatever that was!). Then again, that may be the car set up and anything with a tyre over 145/80/13 tramlines around Dover thanks to the foreign trucks...!!
