My04-my05 there's a huge difference in the handling. Try and push for a my05 if you can but i think 14k for a my05 is no pushing it.
And make sure you go for a jap spec car as they are much more tuneable(£1250 will get you 350bhp/350ltb) and have a sh#t load of extra's as standard such as rear privacy glass HID headlights and rear wash wipe not to mention the automatic water spray button etc

Agreed on the MY05 if you can stretch to a good example, the DCCD-A sorts the natural understeer an Impreza's standard setup creates.. and gives the car a more balanced feel.
Dont get to hung up on JDM vs Type UK though, the JDM is a slightly better specification car (HID Lights, Electric Folding Mirrors, Twin Scroll Turbo) but the Type UK has a far better suited Gearbox for UK roads (the JDM is much closer and has a shorter 6th gear, meaning crusing at speed can become tiresome). Ultimately in terms of tuning you are talking about differences between 340/340 (UK) and 350/350 (JDM) due to the Twin Scroll turbo (this turbo setup also spools about 500RPM sooner than the Single Scroll found in the Euro models)
A decent MY05 (regardless of JDM/UK) and you will have got yourself a very capable car. The MY03/04 is not to be snubbed at though, although on the limit they can understeer.. they are still a very capable Impreza... just not as much as the MY05 (unless you end up with a MY04 Spec C).
STi 7/8/9 doesnt actually exist by the way, the Newage cars are differenciated by MY types (MY = Model Year)
Good luck.

wouldn't say 'make sure you go for jap spec' to be honest, people buy or steer clear of imports for many personal reasons or preference.
nothing wrong with a type uk. good, tunable car.
could do alot worse than checking this one out https://www.scoobynet.com/private-sa...-uk-white.html just been lowered to your budget

I would buy a JDM just for the dials YouTube - 2007 Impreza STi Spec-C Dashboard Greet you don't get these in a uk car apart from the MY06.. tut tut tut

Theres no 2 ways about it, JDM JDM JDM. I bought an MY03 JDM STi, and it has the DCCD-A on it. I havnt found a problem with understeer as of yet, but if I do, I will just roll it off Auto, and sink the dccd to fully open and then, hey presto oversteer.
I have got the defi dashboard in mine aswell, exactly the same as you see in the vid above.
JDM has 300bhp standard as apposed to 265, why faff about trying to upgrade the UK when you can do just the same to a JDM and see large figures?
Mine was rolled @ 330bhp/345ftlb with just a cone filter (sadly), and an aftermarket STi Genome backbox, will be looking at figures of 350bhp/365ftlb with a decat system and another remap.
Its easy horsepower without splashing out major money, and you get xenons, dccd, auto intercooler spray, twin scroll turbo, equal length headers, JDM is the winner
