I've had my Subaru well over a year now and finally have it just the way I like it.......I was going to sell it but my mind changes with the wind and after giving it a lot of thought, i've decided to keep it...

2 things bother me though.....

1)The image........I was getting sick of other people taking the pi$$ out of it....all the "chav" jibes, the fact that people go on and on about, "you shouldn't have graphics, shouldn't have a dump valve blah blah blah...."
Then I finally worked it out....i'm proud to actually have the bottle to have my car the way I want it. Not to be put down by others that think they're better because they have an Aston, Audi RSwhatevers and the like. There are people out there that will never like the gold wheels, big spoliers and the like but I haven't been in another car that makes ME grin whenever I drive it. Something thats "out there" and the fact that we shouldn't shy away just because some people shake their heads....

2) The problem other road users have........for example.....I was poodling down the M25 on Sunday after going to look at an M3 (this was the car that would have tempted me away, but was a major anti-climax) when a red Astra VXR with blacked out windows whipped past me, slammed his breaks on, hit his hazards and shot off again......whats the point?

I don't want to get into the whole, "My car is better than yours thread" but my car doesn't exactly look standard as is far from it.......

Do they do it because they are under the delusion that it's "all show and no go"? or that they want to go down the pub saying "I left this scoob the other day, they're ******* **** they are...."

Morning rant over....2007......the sun is shining and the scoob is staying.....

 

Mate, I know exactly what you mean!!! Although, I find I get less "Thats such a chavvy car" and more of the "OMG its a girl driving that car"
When I first got my Scooby, I did get the "its nice but a bit boy racer type" from peeps like my sis, but then she is more into your MG Cabriolets & BMW Z3 types so I kinda knew she wouldn't be that impressed!
I think people should let others do what they want to their cars... sure give advice but dont shoot their dreams down by saying "if you do that it'll look pathetic!"
I love my Scooby the way it is - plain white, no stickers, small spoiler and simple looking alloys, but I do love the stickered up, huge spoilers too - just not on my car!

At the end of the day, as long as the car puts a smile on your face whenever you sit in it, and you like the attention it draws then who gives a flying duck what others think!!!!

Too many people worry about the image. I like it, and thats all that matters to me.

Although one thing......i have owned my car for over 2 and a half years, and nobody (except on here) has ever mentioned anything about it being chav at all. I for one don't know where all this ''your car is a chavs car'' comes from. I'm sure it's just drummed into our heads so much on here that we actually start to believe it!!!!

and again you're right when you say it's really only on here you get the jibes because on the whole, I do get a good reaction to it

People are always flashing me when I over take and (I think) waving but it's hard to tell when they're in the rear view

 

Exactly mate.. all this cr@p you hear is only ever heard on SN.... never outside on that planet we call earth.

Getting stuck in the SN bubble wreaks your mind.. TOG, do what ya want mate.. if you like it.. good on ya, i might not, someone else might not.. but who cares really..

More likely it's where you live, rather than the car you drive. When I used to live in Essex, what you describe happened every day. And that wasn't in a Scooby either. Move to somewhere where there are no young drivers, no-one gives a damn who you are or what you drive and no-one's in a hurry to get anywhere...

 

i dont think i would change a car due to the thoughts of others (saying this i drive a KA every day over the 06sti so pretty thick skinned). I dont give a S**T what people say, most are just jealous people and try to be nasty to boost their egos imho!
I dont really care if someone tries to get me to race i do what i want, i am not a sheep i go my own way!

Its worrying that people think about others opinions that much! WTF does it matter what someone else thinks? Does it matter if someone even points and laughs at you in scoob, is your life going to change or the performance of the car going to deteriorate?

We call standard looking cars that have been modded street sleepers, a lot of mates think they are the best thing in the world, being able to pull up next to a scoob or similar and beat them, whilst looking like a 1.0 L but i dont get it, whats the big wow? Does it just make you feel like you have big ***** or do they actually grow?

 

A few complications with a certain SN member.....but thats cleared up now!

Like i said mate there might aswell be a "hate frayz" campaign within the ESC. Personally i dont give 2 *****.

They dont like the fact i tell it how it is and also im only just 23.

I dont go to all the meets anymore, only the ones i want to and only to see the few people that i actually want to talk to.

I like my car, i know its nice... i dont care what the rest think, say or do.

 

Why not post a picture of your car so we can decide if it looks like a chavmobile or not!

T'OG, I've not been a member for long, but have already been at the wrong end of the stick when it comes to some members . I don't "hate" anyone, but if there is someone I'm not keen on then I just avoid them. All this "don't talk to him because he done that" is CR*P! I'm old enough to make my own judgement, and unless someone hurts me, then I'll talk to anyone !

TOG, I've never seen your car so I've no idea if it is a chavmobile or not, which was why I suggested you post a picture.

It seems like if you're worried people think it's a chav's car, then it may well look a bit that way. Also, if it looks a bit chavvy, that may explain why chavs keep looking for a race, coz they think you are one of them.

I rarely get that problem in my Standard classic.

 

May i just add this is not ALL of the ESC just a select few of them.

If your car just makes you look incredibly cool, exclusive and understated, people respect that and let you go on your way, with just an admiring glance.
