Default Next best thing to a Type 25

Can't spend £40k on a 4dr Jap saloon, no matter how quick it is. So what the next closest machine, I aonly want it for weekend blasts, the lightweight cars appeal but need to have air con and electric windows.

Perfer an import and will probably go to Litchfield or somewhere like that to buy, new or secondhand. Max budget will be around £28k

Would like to do 2-3 track days a year but mostly A and B roads.

There are too many frigging varriations of the spec C, I'm so confussed, it's almost as bad as the Evo.

I have had a Sti5 Type RA V-Ltd before and this was nice but I found the gearing to be a pain.

I want rawness, so which one to go for? I dislike blue but wouldn't mind seeing some better pictures of white ones, are there any dark grey models? I want somthing current, anyone got the new RA-R or is this something totally different?

Spec C, no doubt. At 28k you're looking at a new or near-new model so an MY05 Spec C RA (the one with the dodgy Nurburgring sticker on the boot) with full Type 20 mods or an unmodified MY06 should be doable.

You want a (white) Spec C WR Limited as it has the A/C & leccy windows

There's a few for sale via PCM who posts on here. Look for the Type RA near the bottom of the page.

Stocklist - Performance Centre Manchester

I bought one (thanks PCM ) & I'll be picking it up soon.

I doubt anyone will have the new RA-R yet. It is bascially the same as the Spec C Type RA but with a bit more BHP as standard and 6 pot brakes. Iain remaps all his JDM imports so they will have 320BHP anyway.

Spec C is a raw car full stop. Spec C Type RA is slighty more raw thanks to uprated STI suspension setup. It's the one to go for, take it from me

And how will it compare to my current car which is running 260bhp?

Would reckon it would leave your honda for dust in any gear, especially on bends

The DC5's are v nice motors ... light, fast & white

The RA will be on another level though as it's also light, much faster (PCM's one is remapped at 350bhp) + they're 4WD.

Go for it! There is only 3nr Type RA's in the UK so chances of seeing another are slim.

I beg to differ, however I'm comparing classic shape, don't forget I had a Sti5 RA V-Ltd and I really think the DC5 (with the mods) is a better all round drivers car, I guess it bring it down to what you are looking for, If the DC5 could cope with another 50BHP then I would stick with it as it does everything that I want, and once it's going it really is very quick but just not balistic enough.

Depends on what kind of drive your looking for I suppose.

You could S/C the DC5 and it would be as fast as most things in a straight line and pretty good on the bends too.

But I think that if your looking for the most complete all round experience of power, grip and poise then the Spec C would be the choice.

Sorry for going off topic but how the hell did you extract 260bhp from a n/a engine????

By the way - go with a Spec C - everytime.

The K20A engine is surprisingly easy to extract power from mate.

A Gruppe M Ram Air induction kit, Toda 4-2-1 manifold, Spoon B-pipe and N1 muffler and a KPro ECU. That would easily see 260BHP if not more. Just because it is normally aspirated don't underestimate it

If fitted with a Jackson Racing supercharger with above spec you would easily be looking at 300+BHP.

Thank you for all the helpfull comments, didn't think mushrooms were in season though

I know the Spec C will be special but so is the DC5, I extracted the power by changing cams, induction, exhuast and mainfold plus Kpro. It has had a whole host of other mods plus I have lightend the car a fair bit around the unsprung area.

No point in fitting an S/C as it changes the engines character plus 260 is all it can really handle through the fronts and even that is pushing it as it has been lightened.

I will prbably have a test drive in a Spec C & an M3 CSL to see how they compare. My inital thoughts are the CSL will be the beter drivers car and feel that bit more special by the Spec C will suit our road conditions more. Lets face it, our roads are only dry and in good condtion about 30% of the year.

Hi BODSKI, nice to here your still hanging out on here I've had the DC5 for 2 years now and that is the longest I've ever kept a car, it is that good!

Blobeye just doesn't do it for me, out of the new age, I only like the hawk face ones, i.e. the latest revision.

So it looks as if a Spec C RA is the way to go, do these kick out 320bhp with similar torque? I was hoping these would be closer to 350.

Mine has 350bhp/360 ltb and has plenty of room for more. From my understanding if you was to add a hybrid turbo £1200 you would be looking at 380/380+

Mine also has 18" wheels and the sti carbon fibre rear view mirror.

So 350 is about max for the stock Turbo? That's a shame, don't want ot start swapping turbos etc.. as then you have to uprate other parts too. Nice looking motor (apart from the silver on white wheels and blue mats

Does look very nice in white.
