Default Best Tyres for a WRX?

What are the best tyres to put on an 03 WRX? I presently have Bridgestone Potenza's but the front two are going to need replacing within the next couple of months. What is a good budget/premium choice? Is there a vast amount of difference (grip/handling) between the two?

I have an 01 WRX. Toyo T1Rs are excellent, especially in the wet.

If you do a search the premium choices tend to be Goodyear Eagle F1s, Michelins and Toyos.

Replaced my Toyo T1-R's with Goodyear F1's, so much better now.
Wouldn't buy Toyo's again after using F1's.

All down to personal preference, I have Pirelli P Zero Rosso's on mine and after everything else I've had, I'm happiest with these for grip, road noise and longevity.

Cheers

May go for the 215s then. I did hear a rumour that the less tyre on the road the faster the acceleration!

What???

Even if it was true, would you want to compremise grip for acceleration???

The difference in acceleration would be minute, in fact you would notice more with the change of ambient tempreature.

Uhhu - how long have you had the Goodyears ? They're not known for good wear. Tend to scrub their shoulders. Are they 91 rated ?

I dont believe that you would lose any accelartion over having a wider tyre, just a rumour and as you said it would be minute! Would 215's grip much better than 205's though, theres quite a big price jump when you go from 205's to 215s, but never really heard of 205's on a scooby???

If the MY03 WRX is the same as the MY02 WRX then the correct OEM fitment is 215/45R17.

The WRX has a narrower wheel than the STi of the same year. The WRX has 17x7JJ wheels whereas the STi has 17x7.5JJ.

The correct fitment for the STi is 225/45R17

These will fit onto WRX wheels, as they fall within the usable wheel widths provided by the tyre manufacturers, although you are at the lowest end of the acceptable spectrum.

This wouldn't neccessarily be ideal for track day use though!

Personally I use Toyo CT01 which suck - but then I can't get Goodyear F1's or Toyo T1R's here - and I'm really not paying shipping for 4 tyres!

Classics that came with 16" wheels had 205/50 R16 tyres.

I use T1-R on my MY03 WRX. In fact i am having the fronts done tomorrow.
Not exactly impressed with the T1-S that were on the fronts though. Only lasted 12k miles and that is mostly normal driving. To me thats poor. I would not mind if i drove like a racing driver, but i dont, and in fact cannot. I aint good enough.
I was gonna try a full set of F1's but my brain just didnt compute that fact and so i have T1-R's again! lol.

This may sound silly BUT i just changed both rears after the car did not like roundabouts in the wet. Previous owner had put Perellis on the back and were worn.

I went to the local tyre place and they guy him self drove a Evo 7..

He recomended some FULDERS.... i was WTF he explain that there German GoodYears and are also very very good, i took his advice and he sorted me two out for £200 fitted. Now i have to say the car feels like a different car, no problems around the Rounabout and Corners. I personaly use Toyos on all other cars that i have had, but id say that these puppys are just as good, i dont knwo how long they will last but hey if the guy that works there says there good then well Hey..... i run 215 45 17" on a 03 WRX

Goodyear is German, and Fulda is their budget brand. They may be budget, but what it means is that they are just 1-2 year old Goodyear tread patterns and rubber/silica compounds. The premier brand gets the new stuff and the old filters to the budget name.

I used them for many years and they were very good, although I never paid more than £50 a corner, fitted.

The Vredestein UltraC's can be had for IRO £68 a corner if you know where
