Default can you run a scoob on low budget

do folks out there in the land of scoobynet reckon you can run/mod a scoob on a very tight budget.

aka using things like ebay universal backbox's, uprate intercoolers etc without it becoming a complete shed?

you could run a scoob on a budget, but mod it not so sure, and dont forget service . but you can do that yourself like i do and save some cash.

it depends doesnt it? i mean your basic servicing schedule can be done on a budget, independant garages etc... so long as you keep the oil level up and checked, the water and the cam belts etc... the car will be ok. the expensive things with imprezas are the brake discs/pads etc.. if you go for OE parts, and this is where you will begin to stretch the budget, but no more than the majority or £20k cars i dont spose.

modding is a different matter, most of these 'universal' ebay bits will be worse than the OE parts you are replacing, so really if you cant afford the good proven parts then best to not waste your money and save up or dont do it at all!

so yeah is say you can run a scoob on a tight budget, just dont skimp on the important bits in favour of the mods

OMG NOOO ebay materials are mass produced hugely and are easy broken and dont last for long and in the long run the better ones last and work alot better. Rather that than risk blowing your engine. As my friend found out with his Evo which blew due to cheap engine parts!!!!

you can run and mod on a limited budget to a certain level!
mods wise you can get a lot of used off ebay but you need to know what your looking for so you get the good stuff or in sales on here.
but at some point you'l need to have a large sum of money for mapping etc

so for me for a daily driver you need at least £400 a month for the car i.e for insurance, running, servicing, mods

I suppose it all depends on what the word budget means, does it mean the cost of buying second hand parts compared to new or does it mean the cost compared to other marques.

I know that it was much cheaper to mod my MKIV golf GTI turbo compared to the price of modding MY99 uk Impreza, using brand new parts and services e.g. remap

If you pick and choose carefully from second hand parts modding an Impreza doesn't cost to much.

e.g. I was quoted £2500 to take MY99 UK Impreza from 230bhp to circa 320 bhp by a reputable tuner, however I bought all the parts myself and the services through a group buy and overall it will cost £1700 with extra bits like a larger intercooler.

I guess budget is in the eye of the beholder.

Running a standard car on a budget is possible, i cant see the point in using high grade fully synthetec oils in a highmilage road car, even in a low state of tune its feasable, as most say modding costs the money, and if you go high end then it is worth shelling out for the top end oils and service parts. To have somthing go bang at motorway speeds is not much fun.

Running the car may be possible. But when it comes to modding then you should really be buying quality parts. Then you will at least have piece of mind that they will last and not fail.

Pay cheap, pay twice.

In the simplest terms, these cars are not cheap to run by any means and you should really have the budget to run them properly, allow for servicing and any unforeseen events. When you buy a car like this you don't really buy it to worry about running costs etc.

i have mine in for its 40k service tomorrow. quoted £130 and thats for an oil service and brade fluid change. Thats must be less than half the price a deeler would charge, see alot of impreza and evo's there to. I guess it helps if you know a good garage that wont take the ****.

If you keep on touch of the Parts for Sale section and other sites, you can pick up mods very cheap, especially as people are converting to standard as to P/X.

As for running, i would've said no. If you do very little miles then maybe. But if i were strapped and it was borderline, i'd get something else. I can't imagine anything worse than having a subaru, but not being to run it.

Servicing, insurance and fuel alone make it not cheap car to run, modding it will take it to a new level of expence + up's the cost of all the above, IMO.
