Default Tuning time 06 WRX

Hi all coming up to a year of Scooby ownership and I think its time to do a few bigger mods to it. I have considered PPP but I don’t think its as hardcore as I am looking, I really don’t want to spend loads of money to be disappointed in the result, secondly is always sounds better in the pub if its been custom mapped more “individual”.

Anyway this is basically what I have at the min

Afterburner vortex bb
Prodrive springs
Prodrive oz 18s with Goodyear F1s
Ferodo ds2500 and braided lines
Prodrive wing
Prodrive flaps
Kenwood DVD screen DDX6029 and all speaker upgraded

Ok here come the questions

•Any recommendation which specialist to take it to (I am in the MK area but am willing to travel sensible 2-3 hours) my dealer recommended TSL

•Thinking of a dump valve any recommendations just for the sound I no it’ will not help power, if I hated it would the car needed another remap if it was mapped with it on????

•what if any handling upgrades would you recommend, the car does have some understeer but I don’t want to spend big money of handling yet, I have read load about drop link etc but no idea what upgrades are effective and what they actually do………

thanks for any feedback and advice you can give

no warranty is not a big issue for me, my dealer has expressed that he would only class that it would effect my engine therefore any other issues he would happily fix.

he also addedthat they would be willing to look at any faults even engine related to see what caused them and if it was unrelated to the mods they would fix them. so I am looking for a reliable and safe place to have it turned don’t want all out power just a good boost from what I have probably 290bhp ish

I reckon your dealer is the one I use, and I have also used TSL who are excellent in my opinion. Give them a call. They have a good reputation.

If you're looking at getting the most from what you've got, then I would recommend you need to add a turbo, and depending on how much power you go for, a fuel pump, finished off with a remap of the factory ECU.

We have worked on a few 06 cars, a WRX with 3" decat, TD05 turbo, fuel pump and STI intercooler made 350hp at powerstation, with oodles of torque and excellent drivability. With the standard intercooler I would limit the boost somewhat, but you can still get 300hp comfortably.

I would limit handling upgrades to just a rear ARB and droplinks and get the geomety done if you want to dial out a little understeer.

Just to iterate the above, get the Whiteline kit from Dave & Demon Tweeks (01978) 663042, who will get you a good discount, as well as excellent service.

I had the above done, with 4 wheel alignment at powerstation and the car was a different beast. Perfect!!

Can get a walbro 255 fuel pump for £80 off the shop here. (Lateral P).

Decat the rest of your exhaust with the afterburner kit, will make it bloody loud though. Or as ZP said, swap for a full 3" system.

Sounds like you have a dealer similar to how many thinks/acts

Out of interest how much would you be looking at £ wise for these sort of mods and would 300-350 be ok for a daily driven car?

Or just make your mind up when we do the mapping and pick from the wide range we hold in stock at competitive prices!

Always welcome to come in for a chat. It is best to call before leaving though, to ensure that Paul is in / has time!

Cheers

Would recomend Zen as 1st class and well worth a visit to discuss your requirements.

He has done a fair bit to my STI and all the work is A1 and the price he quotes is the price you pay (no nasty shocks for 'additions' or 'forgotten parts' that were needed!) I am MK based as well 20 they are nice & handy as well

When you change the back box, its worth changing the resonated pipe aswell. I put a TSL Group n back box on which did sound better, but later added a TSL centre section and the difference is amazing. Left both cats in place. I've found TSL to be really helpful.

If you really, really wanted one, we sell and stock the Turbosmart and GFB range. A properly specced and setup dump valve shouldn't affect the mapping provided everything is running correctly.
