Would you buy this car, or is it dodgy?
My mate is looking at purchasing this car: eBay.co.uk: 2001 SUBARU IMPREZA WRX UK 300 BLUE LIMITED EDITION STI (item 170069656429 end time 16-Jan-07 16:50:15 GMT)
It's a UK 300 on a 2001 but has had the 2003 conversion with the lights etc??
And my other concern, it's had the clocks changed?
Any opinions, thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks, MikeyB

He's either an enthusiast (questionably misguided) and has spent thousand on it, or its a cobbled together load of scrap.
I'm inclined to think it's the former. Doubt he'll get back what he's spent though........ although I wonder why he's using an 'electronical' boost controller when he has autronic onboard

It's deffo a 2001 as the arial is sticking out of the a pillar but it's had a shedload of alterations !!
I would have expected to see the Plaque with the UK 300 number somewhere on the pics.
Someone doing this much to their bugeye would surely be known to someone on SN ?

looks like it has a audio amp in the boot ( red cable to the battery ) so probably subs
it has a dump valve
nasty wheels ( the car is a limmeted edition which wheels would cost more than thos put on )
it has had a new clutch in 34 k miles
full sti 8 conversion my ars
has a very smart ecu and if heis running anti lag has seriously limmeted the turbos life ( all not required at this level )
would i buy this car ...... not a chance

Hi Mikey,
This car looks suspect to me also, I have seen a couple of these in Limassol, Cyprus, with a blobeye front and older bugeye rear. I can't comment on this particular car, but what I can tell you is that several Cyprus car dealers will import crash repaired cars from Japan, particularly the higher performance ones, because they are dirt cheap to buy and can sell to 'knowledgeless' buyers for top money, especially in Cyprus, where cars like this are in demand.
There is only one thing that would prove this car is genuine, and that is every piece of history since new, and all the 'conversion' paperwork and invoices. (An extremely expensive conversion, if it is a genuine one!)

Another good reason not to:
"Since many engine components are exposed to very high temperatures during ALS [anti lag system] operation and also high pressure pulses, this kind of system is very hard on the engine and turbocharger. For the latter not only the high temperatures are a problem but also the uncontrolled turbo speeds which fast can destroy a turbocharger."

b4 I even knew of Scooby Net or any of these other forums I must admit I was quite naieve about it all...
I bought my car being told it was HPI clear etc and after the sale I found out it was previously written off as uneco repair! It started life as a bug eye then got the blob face lift... I was really upset that I'd been taken for a mug. Altho I should have guessed as it was about 1.5k cheaper than others on autotrader (but thought that was partly due to the colour).
Anyway this story has a happy ending coz I've had my car a yr now and I'm totally in love with it! Needless to say I've spent untold £££ on it, but I've made sure it not only looks nice (my opinion), but it also drives safe! Plenty of care and attention have gone into this once unhappy car!
