Default joost a quicky question on polish...

please dont move this, mods. all it is, im popping down to halfords this morning to pick up some more polish. cars a red uk turbo, has a few swirls in the paint, but no scratches etc. for a reasonable amount, whats a good polish in your opinions. preferably polish you dont have to dampen a cloth for like the turtle wax stuff i previously used.

car isnt metallic or anything, just postman pat red. quick suggestions, im going down around 9am.

cheers

andy

p.s. just want a nice gleam today if weather holds out.

andy

p.s. may invest in some decent cloths too

Meguiars ScratchX will reduce your swirls a little, the NXT wax is superb and so easy to apply and buff off

Remember to wash with a lambswool mitt, using a second bucket of clean water to rinse the mitt after each panel.

right. so i have one bucket with warm soapy water in it, and one with just normal cold water for rinsing the sponge/mitt off with?

i fancied getting a lambswool mitt, but dont want to destroy it, cleaning the nitty gritty bits, thats all. ive seen this howver on halfords site... any good?

me too. this could cost a fortune. all i have been using is a sponge and one bucket, but on particularly dirty areas, rinsing it with the hose i use before dunking it in the soapy water again...

About a tenner should get you a lambswool mitt, but for the wheels, exhaust and other "nitty-gritty bits" use a microfibre one.

The essentials.....

Meguiars Lambswool Wash Mitt

Meguiars Deep Pile Microfibre Wash Mitt

Meguiars Ultra-Safe Wheel Spoke Brush

Meguiars Quik Clay

Blackfire Gloss Enhancing Polish

Blackfire Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection

Meguiars Foam Applicator Pads

Poorboy's Wheel Sealant

Poorboy's Waffle Weave Towel

Poorboy's Work Towel

...on a budget....

Basic Wash Kit

  • polish (meguiars or may autoglym)
  • aplicator pad for polish instead of using a cloth
  • wash mitt (seen a good quality cotton one)
  • polishing mitt to buff polish off (sheepskin one?)
  • some more wheel cleaner spray
i hope after getting all this the weather holds out for a couple hours, although if last weekends anything to go by...

Might have to cycle there though

I'd go with the Meguiars, I don't rate Autoglym.
The washmitt should be lambswool and the polishing cloths should be microfibre. Be careful with the wheel sprays, try and get a citrus based one as the more aggressive acid based ones like Wonder Wheels will knacker your alloys.

To see what can be done....CLICKY

NEVER EVER USE A SPONGE FFS!! That's about the worst thing you can do to your car. With your best intentions in mind, your inflicting more harm than good. If you think of the grit that is sitting on your paintwork, then placing a flat sponge on top of it there is no where for the grit to go. It doesn’t ‘soak’ into the sponge; you just move it off the paintwork and into the water solution. But in doing this you first have to move the grit, and it is this movement that caused the swirling you see in the paintwork.

What you need:

Wheel brush
Wheel Cleaner
2 buckets - 1 plain water the other soapy. Remember lubracy is the key, you don't need fookin' bubbles everywhere, and whilst it may get you a boner, your not planning on having a soapy t1t wnak from your beloved.
Wash mitt – 2 preferably
Car shampoo
Drying Towel – 2 or 3

DJ Vinyl Ritchie............... The chicks dig a clean car. If you show pride in your car, they know you clean under your foreskin regularly. FACT.

Its a subaru impreza - a rally car, it was designed to be dirty
and before that they designed 4wd farmers wagons, which yes were designed to see lambswool - but while it was still alive.

The fake tan brigade girls love a clean car parked in McD's carpark meet, real women love it dirty

defo go with the meguiars as opposed to autoglym. I used autoglym for years but tried Meguiars NXT wax and was amazed at the difference in depth of shine and how long it protected the car / continued to bead water away.

It is a little harder to polish off than autoglym but the results are worth it.

Regards

Albeit a homologous road going version.

You know, back in the stone age the ******* never used soap - so do you follow in your ancestors footsteps, and go around like a smelly tramp-stinking of BO and soiled undies? Times move on my friend and so should you.
Get with the program!

DJ Vinyl Ritchie.......... you carry on slapping your crusty **** in your gf/bf

lol.

By the sounds of it Vinyl by the time you've finished polishing your **** all the girls will have found someone else. Like you're car it's for using and getting wet not just for polishing, admiring and keeping dry.

My girth and length is such- that it does take a while to polish to a shimmering shine.

DJ Vinyl Ritchie............. I use my car to its maximum potential, rain or shine! doesn't mean I can't treat it to the finest treatment available.

omg, i agree with dj vr on this one...

to funky spider, yeah i do drive it how its intended, but i like to keep it clean too, under the bonnet and over the bonnet, so no dirt gets where it shouldnt do.

heres a piccy of what i picked up...

i did go with meguiars nxt wax, came with an aplicator pad too.
bought some wheel cleaner, and seperate wax too
picked up a microfibre polishing cloth to buff off
and also another applicator pas for polish/wax, and a cotton mitt (before i realised i can use the fibre one for both washing and waxing, duh!)

didnt have much change from nearly £50 but it will last ages hopefully

You can get the Maguires kit. You get the shampoo, polish, glass cleaner, mit and wax applicator. Think it costs around £30 - £35. Well worth the investment - you also get a bag FREE with it

You will need two buckets, one with the shampoo and the other with warm water in. You rinse the mit off in the bucket with warm water before putting it in the shampoo!

I really rate it.

I would show you my car just after I had washed it, but can't upload the image

Any idea what the difference is between the Meguiars NXT Spray Wax that I have and the "Tech Wax" that choccy has bought is ? I saw both in the shop.
