2005 WRX STI Type UK
Hi Guys,
I'm a newbie to the forum and so just wanted to say Hi
I've just bought myself a 2005 WRX STI Type UK PPP in Crystal Grey, a nice upgrade from my previous Civic Type R.
Absoluletly love the Impreza, enjoying every second of it.
Also, I was asked the question by a neighbour of mine, he asked which Version was my STI, I said Type UK, he said no is it Version 8 or 9?
Which version would mine be?
Thanks in advance.
Jas.

This STi 7/8/9/10 thing is just so confusing and complete *******
2000MY was STi6
2001MY wasn't STi7
2002MY wasn't STi8
2003MY wsan't STi9
2004MY wasn't STi10
2005MY wasn't STi11
2006MY wasn't STi12
and 2007 won't be STi13
The STi7/8/9... wasn't ever used by STi but has ALWAYS been misused by the aftermarket. There are differences between the various MY cars which would have been more than the differences between STi5 and 6 so should have been enough to increment the number by 1 for a MY change.
Any chance we can all stick to MY to identify the various versions as it's the only way of making sure we are all talking about the same thing??

BUT, they are not to everyone's taste so think hard about what you want from the car. Best person to advise you would be Iain Litchfield. If he felt that you would be better off in a UK car he would tell you.

Welcome to the confusing world of Imprezas
Generally the MY** is the best way of identifying as its the year of manufacture.
Unofficially, the terms, classic (for the original Impreza) and then newage (usually 2001 on) apply, but for the newage models you then have the terms bugeye, blobeye and hawkeye dependant on headlight design.
Its not exact but generally
Bugeye = 2001-2002
Blobeye = 2003-2005
Hawkeye =2006 onwards
But the same standing, the STi versions of the 3 are often informally refered to STi7, STi8 and STi9 respectively.
Thats how I identify the cars, but I suspect someone will be along to correct inaccurancies in the above .
Hope that helps, and welcome.

PS don't ask about Japanese market cars (JDM)

You have learnt one thing already. That JDM cars are superior to UK cars
BUT, they are not to everyone's taste so think hard about what you want from the car. Best person to advise you would be Iain Litchfield. If he felt that you would be better off in a UK car he would tell you.

yeah, that's something else you'll get used to aswell jas, the 2 groups of scooby owners. the JDM owners run down the UK cars, but hey, horses for courses like MrRa says!

hehehe, this is all very confusing but I'm a bit used to this with the Type R that I had. Mine again was the UK version and the JDM version came with LSD as well as around 20 more horses.
Yes I have just bought my Scooby and did want the UK Version for many reasons, mainly insurance, dealer warranty and re-sale etc. I think it drives and looks the bees knees and I'm falling it love with it the more and more I drive it.
But thanks for all ur info and comments guys and also for pre-warning me of JDM and UK spec banter!! lol
