Sorry to put this in general, but it is car related so didn't seem to fit with the tone of topics in non-sccoby related (and who knows the same issue may be true of Subaru).

A friend of mine bought a new mini a few weeks ago, and some git keyed it at the weekend. The scratch is on one panel only, hasn't penetrated to the metal or dented the panel, but the dealer reckons they need to repaint the whole side of the car to blend the repair in, at a cost of £450.

He asked them if using a scratch repair service was an option and they basically told him he would void his anti-corrosion warranty if he didn't use an authorised dealer to fix the scratch. He's going to check the wording of the warranty, but is this right - fair enough if the repair itself starts to corrode, but to invalidate the warranty full-stop seems like sharp practise?
