Matey boy has put his car on a rolling road with no forced induction of air. If you think about it - those big gaping holes on the front of your car (the radiator and bonnet scope) are there to collect air. The car, when running at full throttle will normally be moving at considerable speed and will consume vast quantities of air. When doing a RR you normally have a bloody great fan or some form of directed air flow so that the engine receives enough. It would appear to be a short run though, so I guess it would be OK? Not sure really - I would be happier with an air flow!
Ah well, it his engine....

I'm just amazed at the apparent lack of cooling fans. If they are there, they are miles away from the car with no ducting set up.
Would you expect your engine to last if you drove a flat out run on the road with the radiator and intercooler covered up!
I've watched it a few times and just can't understand what they think they're doing!

You can see from this video that the big black thing on the left is the funnel, if you could see a little further left you would see a great big fan on the end of it

On the day, PE used a big fan but no ducting. It was run twice and the day was pretty cold so I wasn't worried. Neither were the 30+ others who were there. Admittedly though, I've no idea how powerful that fan was!? I guess you just have to trust the tuners.

My car has run on their rollers a couple of years ago, they have quiet a good st up, drive the car on and then quite a big fan on wheels is placed in front of the car, this has what can only be described as a directional funnel that flows air over the bonnet (As per in real life). That's why the bonnet is closed. if you stand in front of the fan by mistake you know about it. Even stood in the open doorway you can feel the air being sucked in passed you.
Not quite as a good set up at powerstations dyno cell, but still very good

Any idiot can start a thread, but apparently not every idiot can read the whole thing.
IMO if you're going to run a car on the dyno like that you may as well just pick a number and quote that to your mates down at the pub.

Give PE a ring tomorrow and point out the error of their ways.
After X many years of operating the RR like that, I'm sure they would be willing to listen to your expertise?

That 1st clip in the opening post is my old red Impreza, with me in the Levis t-shirt right at the start of it.
I can confirm that there was a GREAT BIG fan present, as there always is, and Im not sure some of the comments were entirely fair considering you`re only seeing half the picture.
Many many rolling road days have been conducted at PE, with excellent feedback from many many happy customers. That rolling road day in the video was also arranged on Scoobynet, so you can trust that had there been no fan it would have been quickly picked up on

I've spent time using that dyno myself, working with Ecutek. The fan set up is just fine, and I would say an apology to Power Engineering for clearly inferring they are "idiots" should be due any time soon.
