Question

I've had a new WRX for a month now and, having done 1200 miles, it is beginning to run-in nicely. However, new as I am to scoobys, what is the best method of achieving a quick getaway from traffic lights etc.?

I don't want to burn the clutch out and I don't want to look like a t*sser revving away before I go anywhere - but I can't quite seem to get the technique right. Tips anyone?

Id give it a few thousand miles before you try doing any quick getaways from the lights and it is also frowned upon (unless on a deserted road somewhere )
The hardest part is not letting it go out of the turbo, there are 2 ways of doing this, 1st and not reccommended on any account is take the car to 7k and just sidestep the clutch, apart from rapid accelleration you probably do damage to your clutch/gearbox and transmission
The second way is take the car to 3.4 - 4k rpm, bring the cluch up and add to the accellerator, hopefully you can do this without any problems. Please note that subaru uk will not repair any car that has had damage done to it (under warranty) due to timed events, sprints etc. If they do think your car has been damaged in this manner your going to have an expensive bill

Thanks Tony - I don't want to leave a trail of rubber every time the lights change, I just want to get away reasonably quickly when I feel like it!

Must admit that trail of rubber is almost impossible, at least for me. Happened just once when wet and in turning junction
