How do you fit a MY99 gearstick gaiter?

No idea but remove the surround to have a look undernreath:
Remove gear **** by turning for an eternity then pull it off the gaitor.
Open the cubby hole and locate the 2 screws near the handbrake.
This should allow the handbrake trim to pulled up and off, careful if you have any switches located there.
Once removed the plastic surround attached to the gaitor can be pulled firmly to remove.

Under the centre console flap (behind the handbrake) are two screws. They are covered with plastic covers so prise these off (they'll clip back on later). Undo the screws. You can then remove the platsic handbrake surround. Be sure to unplug the wires before you remove it entirely.
Now you can remove the gearstick surround. Pull the plastic surround towards you (ie, away from the centre console) and up and it'll come away. Undo the gear **** (hard twist anti-clockwise) and hey presto you have removed the gearstick surround.
Fit back in reverse order.
