Default Subaru Impreza Sport

Firstly let me say hello to everyone.

I've been looking at maybe getting a Impreza sport but I'm just after any info and help really.

What sort of things should I look out for?
What is a good price for a 99T plate with 75k on the clock?
Any general model info specs etc.
Any good for towing?

If there is a FAQ that I've missed then please shout at me and point me in the right direction

Thanks

Mike

Going by your username, you drive a Fabia VRS? You are aware that you will be entering a whole world of slow if you buy a sport when compared to a Fab

Oy! I'll have you know a Sport is no slouch and can keep up with a 260ps WRX. Speaking from owning a Sport, a 2001 X reg Sport, I paid just inder 4K for a 54K mile, well looked after Impreza sport.

Head over to imprezasport.net. There are quite a few people over there that know what they are talking about.

A 130 Bhp Sport can keep up with a 250 + Brake Turbo
Keep taking the pills

PP must be a fantastic driver then. Imagine the two cars against each other with the same driver now

PP is, if you call flooring it (giving it some beans) with all the windows down being empty of fuel driving a modded Legacy turbo, then yes.

Flooring it with next to no fuel and all the windows down is his driving style?
Must try this next time i come across an Enzo as they have roughly double my Bhp................. in the same way a Sport has roughly half that of said WRX.
Do you think i can keep up with the Enzo?

The sport isn't a bad car but of course the Turbo one is better

The story Darren was refering to is that I was driving a sport a few years ago and Cliff was driving his 260bhp uk turbo and he was having trouble keeping up with me at lower speeds. If it'd been on an open road or motorway it would have been a different story

Yeah thats the story Paul. I hope you don't mind me talking/refering to it?

Back to topic. The Sport is a great car to begin with, then when you finally get a turbo it will be more rewarding then going from a vRS to a turbo, well I think so anyways.

Cheers guys for all your replies.

I've signed up to impreza sport net so no doubt I will find out lots of info on there.

I know the sport will not be anything like the turbo, and without opening a tin of worms I'm sure it's not as quick as my vrs.

I wouldn't mind an impreza but at nearly 30 insurance is still a joke! even though I've got Full NCB. must be the London(ish) postcode!

How much have you been quoted?
I got my last insurance at 28 on a uk turbo running over 300 bhp (mods declared) with full ncb, 3 points on a Leeds postcode for £640

You aren't wrong and fuel consumption on a sport is a joke. The sport my sister and I had was worse on fuel than my 265bhp Legacy

I'd chip the vRS and keep that

Ive had both and not that much in it in out and out straight line oomph, if the VRS has not had chips etc. Sports handling will leave the heavy oil burner easily.
Never mind the turbo snobbery if you want a sport go for it, still a great car

I've had plenty of experience driving sports and my missus has a std VRS. I have no doubt the sport will be similar in pace but due to the n/a power delivery, it will feel slower than the vrs. As for the handling, i don't think a vrs would be far behind if at all. Every sport i've driven wallows in the corners and doesn't promote much confidence.
If the sport had half decent fuel consumption it "may" be a good buy over a turbo, but as they ain't that fars behind the turbo on being dire on fuel, you might as well go that extra mile and get a turbo

Theres truly only one problem with sports, well i mean sport owners realy......why on earth does anyone mod a sport to look like a turbo then find themselfs pissed all over by a well kept rs turbo and hense giving the escort driver the shock of his life thinking he jut did a turbo scoob ......if you wnat a turbo buy one,if you want a sport buy with.......its not rocket science..... ........................i love em both...

duh.... insurance for younger drivers, higher running costs, more expensive parts...

ive had both, prefer the turbo power obviously, but if your a 20 year old after the handling or looks, get a 1.8 or a 2.0 n/a car and pop on a turbo bonnet. whats wrong with that?

most enthusiast car drivers can surely hear the difference between a turbo and a sport so they should know they havent beaten a turbo even if it has the same bonnet/spoiler etc. id rather a driver make his sport look like a nicely modded turbo, than pop to halfords with the corsa/saxo crew and buy £££'s of stickers, neon lighting, useless bling bling etc...

sorry, you hit a nerve there.

I have an 02 STI and my parents drive an 01 n/a bugeye and they love it to bits. Sure its no real comparison but they still have awesome grip and handling against most other road cars. If you want a sport, get a sport.

In answer to your Insurance, I renewed at 29, declared mods, protected no claims for £800.

The same reason Feckhall sell body kits and all that for Astras and the like to make them look like the real deal. It's what people want at the end of the day. Oh and at the end of the day the sun goes below the horizon

so their own opinions in thinking they beat a 200bhp car are totally irrelevant then, due to their ignorance in not knowing the difference
