A report from a newspaper states:
Staffordshire residents will be left footing the bill after the region's police authority members unanimously voted themselves a whacking pay rise.
The authority's 17 members swopped the £17-hour wage they receive for a basic of £7000 - and 25% of the shortfall will be covered by council taxes.
The current budget for attendance allowances for the entire authority is £45,000 but that will soar by 300% to £170,000, leaving a £125,000 shortfall to be taken from the existing budget.
The new wages will come into force this Saturday (just gone) and the police need to find £40,000 to cover the wages until the next financial year in April (no prizes for guessing where that is coming from!!!!)
In addition to the figure of £7000 members of the suthority will receive extra allowances for individual responsibilities.
Under the new pay scheme chairman Michael Poulter will receive £21,000, deputy Michael Beatty will get £17,500 and comittee chairmen £11,000.
Mr Poulter defended the pay increases claiming the level of responsibility justifies the allowances. (Yeah RIGHT)
He said "Generally speaking the money we are receiving is less than a normal member of the public, working in the professional sector, would be paid. We have as annual budget of £124 million to be allocated to the police forceand the money we are paid from this is negligible, considering the responsibilty involved."
Comments please!!!!!!!!!!!!!
