This morning I needed the HRW to de-mist ... first time I have noticed this (only had the car 6 months) - the drivers side mirror cleared quickly - clearly heated!! passengers????? nah stayed bloody misted up for ages - what skin-flints Subaru are!! or is it not working??

What with this and the bacofoil panels (all dented beyond recognition - after 6 MONTHS!!!), crap hi-fi, no display dimmer, no deadlocks, and very poor paint finish (all pepper potted front) - what did the money go on?? oh yes that BRIGHT switch!! which is about as useful as a one legged man in an **** kicking contest!!!

Still - its the best car I have ever driven

Thats right!! they employed a monkey to do the design - you know? that bloke who knocked out such classics as the Scorpio and Corrolla he was going cheap so they thought - we hire him to do the looks and we will save enough to include a BRIGHT button !!

You mean the mirrors are supposed to be heated??

My P1 mirrors don't work in that case.

Does anyone know if they should work, or is that expecting too much from a 31k car?

Thanks
Kurt

Is it a MY00 you have?
I have a MY99 and it doesn't have heated mirrors at all - I am sure that this is how it was intended!

I didn't realise that the MY00 was upgraded to include at least one heated mirror.

Can anyone clarify this?

I noticed the same thing on my MY00, didn't think they were heated but was surprised when the drivers side appeared to clear as if it was, although not as quick as other heated mirrors that I have had before.

I've checked the manual and it states "Outside mirror defogger (if equipped)" note the reference to "mirror" as opposed to "mirrors"
Having said that it also says that the HRW should turn off after 15mins, mine doesn't

OK first the good news:- I too have an MY00.

Now the bad news:- I park it in a garage overnight and have never noticed the phenomenon you describe.

Perhaps, unusually, Sunil is right!

Question

Got a MY00 as well but as its parked in the garage over night I don't get to see the demisting bit.

How would it operate? in conjunction with the HRW or via a thermistor type affair?

Otis, that's coz you're always looking for knockers!

There I got it in again.

Anyhow they're not heated on "our" model. Took the cheapskates nearly 7 years to colour code the damn things.

I've been told if you do want heated mirrors, change them for Forester mirrors.

'Apparently' the wiring is in the door for the heating element to work! - I don't know personally though!

MY00 parked outside at night, mirrors do not clear themselves. Mind you opening the windows and wiping them clear with a finger is not the most time consuming task in the world, slighly cold though.

BarryK,

Whilst I was disappointed to also find out that there are no heating elements in the Mirrors, I was happy to overlook this on balance due to paying £17000 for a new MY00 and got a car that blows must other things away!! I guess they have to cut costs somewhere to keep the price as low as it is!!!

I don't think any Impreza's have heated mirrors unlike the Legacy's. Even my old Mitsubishi Colt GTi had heated mirrors and they were fabulous. They don't just de-mist but also dry the mirrors when its raining.

The best cure for this is to pour warm water (from the hot tap, not kettle) onto the windows and mirrors. Clears them and the heat stops misting. I never need to use de-icer.

MY96 manual has instructions for heated mirrors (if fitted). Slightly different direction control switch and a separate heater button.
