Question

I'm interested in purchasing the new WRX STi in January, upgrading from a MY99.
Question is, how come the new model has all this wonderfull water spray, sodium filled valves, lighter than this that and the other, and loads of other mods yet doesn't have an improved 0-60 time.
I'm on the understanding my MY99 turbo does roughly the same.
Any one update me on this?

Cheers,

DAve. (Medway Computer Components Limited)

The book time for the the UK STi is 5.2 sec 0-62mph, which as you say isn't much better than a pre MY'01 standard UK!

But, isn't the Jap MY'01 STi somewhere round the 4.8s 0-62?
Which isn't bad, but due to the increase in weight of the car you'd expect a slight drop in performance...

The engine is a huge improvement, but will only really benefit you if you start tuning it further, link ecu, decats exhausts etc..

Dunno, could be talking out of my Rss... But i reckon if you're in to tuning there is a shed load more potential in the new STi...

Don`t always go on book figures, its how it does it that makes a car feel quick?
The quoted BHP figure is, I am led to believe, based on 95 octane. Expect a few more on 98!

Thumbs down

0 - 60MPH is totally meaningless, If you saw the methods employed by Magazine test times you would cry out loud if you had even an ounce of mechanical sympathy. a much more telling figure is 30 - 90MPH, and even that wrecks transmissions in the pusuit of the last 1/10ths of a second!!!

Apparently Prodrive are developing a new centre section and rear back box which will increase the power up to 280bhp. The exhaust fitted for the UK market severely restricts the engines performance due to the new emission regulations.
I also believe that they are looking at a performance pack that will take it over 300bhp.
Can't wait.

Would anyone from Prodrive care to comment on NIGE K's posting?

Even if prodrive were'nt working on a PPP for the UK STi(and i'd be surprised if they were'nt!) There's nothing to stop people buying a decat centre section and backbox from another manufacturer.

I would hope/suspect that the STI PPP will be more than a decat centre section and backbox. Prodrive are renowned for doing things properly.

What about the STi ProDrive car? Is this just a skirted up model? It looks awesome and has made me think twice of leaping to an EVO VII, which compared to the Scoob looks like a taxi with a wing on the back.
