anyone EXPORTED from the uk.........

ok, what I'm really after is some info on a document issued by the DVLA - the Certificate of Permanent Export.
Has anybody applied and got one, and how did customs/excise for the receiving country treat this document. As legal proof of ownership, or did they want more info/documents.
Any info out there ?
dvla.gov.uk doesn't give too much away.

I took my bike to Germany, all I needed was Registration Document, no receipt required. Did a local TUV(MOT) and got a new Number plate, that was it. You get a letter from local German DVLC and then they gave me a letter to send back to UK and the UK DVLC take this as proof and register it as permanently exported, I didn't do that last bit as I may bring it back when I eventually come home, all I need do then is pop on my old plate.
I had no contact whatsoever from DVLC in UK, handled it all locally in Germany, as far as UK are concerned its not on the road as its not taxed.

Stupid question.......
Why would you buy a car in the UK to export to NZ???
Get it in Japan (a lot nearer) and pay a lot less to start with, and probably pay less to ship it as well......

stupid answer....
yes, could get a 1999 STi for NZ$49,000 (~£14,500), but as my 1998 v-limited is up at £13,000 with no takers and a £800 transport cost (excluding maritime transport), seems half sensible to take it with me. No GST on import as I've had it over one year now.
Real questions or issue is this.
IMHO it just seems a bit lax for DVLC to retain the V5 log book, issue a certificate of export, and then expect customs in NZ to be happy about proof of ownership etc. Seems a bit wishy washy with no real substance.
I'll phone NZ tonight to get the low down. Anyone else exported a vehicle ?

DVLA sucks - just forget about them.
Keep your reggie doc, export the lad to NZ and then re-register it over there (you may need to bolt in some km/h clocks etc. and do the equivalent of an MOT test to get your number plates).

I would imagine that if you don't let DVLA know that you have exported it (or at least taken it off the road) then they will chase you for road tax FOR EVER!
Whether they would chase you half way around the world though is another matter!
