Subaru Impreza v Police 2.8l V6 Vectra
Below is part of a newpaper report regarding a new police car GMP have purchased to tackle anti social driving behaviour.
"It boasts a 2.8-litre, V6 engine, which can dispatch zero-60 mph in around six seconds, and can reach a top speed of 155 mph. It is driven only by officers specially trained in high speed chases, who dubbed it an Imprezza beater" (Not my spelling of Impreza but the reporter)
Now I know this police car will be quick especially on a straight road but do they really think they would be able to keep up on twisty roads?
Also why single it out as an Impreza beater? Surely this is tarnishing all Impreza drivers with the same brush!! Is this again demostrating how arrogant of our police force is.

1) What Edd said, ie.e this reflect s fact that Scooby is STILL the benchmark!
2) Not with those figures, especially if its an STi or tuned WRX!!
3) Besides, as the recent WRX vs MX% clip demonstrated, performance differences between cars can be easily negated by whichever driver has least regard for their safety, that of others and the condition of their car!! The police cannot drive in a reckless manner and to hell with everyone else and the car; criminals will almost certainly do this!
4) Oh, and haven't the police had 2.8 (or lagish capacity) V6s for ages: Carlton's, Omegas, Vectas, Mondeos etc.... What's new??
The only assured Impreza (or any other performance car) beater is a helicopter!

I think you'll find it's faster, maybe not from standstill, but once rolling (which is about 99% of cases) it's probably got the measure of an Impreza. Anyway, one the whole, faster or not, there's not gonna be much in it so you won't get away. That's the message the police want to give out, drive like a moron in something fast and we'll keep up so don't bother...

Loads of police forces have rice rockets. Wiltshire have a 3 Evo 260's. One marked 2 unmarked, Avon have a white unmarked STI8 and South wales have 2 black Evos to name but a few.
I've spoken with a Traffic copper in swindon, They were chasing a scoob on the motorway and had to give up as they had no chance in catching it.
I'm more than happy for them to have a helicoptor gunship, Because if my car was nicked I wouldn't want it back and atleast this way they could kill the little theiving b4stard!!!!

I have been reliably informed that GMP also have the 2.8 v6 Turbo VXR vectras, unless this is the one you refer to.
I'm sure with these credentials it is certainly a match for most chav cariots.

Its pretty well known that its much easier to follow a car than it is to lead where vision is restricted. If you are the one who is following you get the advantage of watching what the car in front is doing.
Keeping with someone on the road is also a lot to do with how suicidal the pair of you are. Coppers are meant to slow down for each and every corner and junction till they are certain that there are no other members of the public that they may collide into. Chav in his TWOCED car often does not display these concerns.
