Just checked out the info and it says £15 per person doesn't this seem a bit steep where does all the money go? £15 per car seems more favourable to me.

incidentally i recently paid 12 quid to attend the bike show at gmex - now that was a rip off - it was crap

1. Venue Hire

2. Event Insurance

 

Too many people taking a peice of the pie. Like most events these days, its a highly costy outing for the family to essentially just walk around and look at stuff.

And yes, £15 IMO is too much, no matter how you justify it, as I know what overheads are involved in these type of events. And although there will be plenty of people happy to pay that, there will be just as many who won't.

 

I am correct in thinking that kids are free aren't they. I couldnt see it in the blurb anywhere

 

Most events are free for Children but I am sure Simon / Shaun will confirm

 

I also thought kids where free. And £15 seems very fair to me. How much would you spend in the pub for the day or if yi went out for lunch even.

Yes but at least you get food and drink. The main content is the cars provided by the entrants which the organisers aren't paying for are they? and as has been said if you wanted to take kids it could get very expensive

The worst is most events give concessiosn to buying tickets in advance, or large groups. It also doesn't look like plus members get anything either (well nothing has been advertised as such)....

 

I would imagine the costs are to mention a few:

Hire of venue.
Staff.
Insurance.
Timing setup.
Medics ?

Why in York....Why not? Can't please everyone with the location.
Wrc in Wales is a prime example.

End of the day if £15 quid is too expensive for a day out, dont go.

Erm no! York is pretty much central to the UK! which includes Scotland as well! This is a nationwide event.

Why do nearly all people from the south think that the UK doesn't exsist North of Birmingham All events down south, which is the majority of all events are out of the way of people who live up here! Next you'll be wanting TOTB moved because its "too far"

On the note of tickets, £15 per person does seem high in my opinion. One reason why I'm not doing any shows at all this year is the cost of going, theres also food and drink which is often way way over priced. I agree with most people, if your taking your family it will get expensive.

 

I think you'll find most events are in or around Northampton, which is pretty much the middle of England. (Sorry to all the Scots)

I can understand your point IF they charge 15 quid for kids aswell, that would be an expensive day out. I wouldent imagine they do it for free and I wouldent expect them to either.

Agree that drinks and food can be a rip off at events alright.

 

When you pay 3 quid for a crappy burger remember its not just because they makinga massive profit from it - these burger vans can pay up to and more than a grand a day just to site their van!!!


With regards to the cost.

i personally think 15 quid is reasonable, the venue and insurance cost alone must be massive.

 

Totally agree, for spectators it is not much of a spectacle.

Gets better when muppets on the tannoy ask rubbish to be picked up. Previous events I have seen rubbish all over the place.....errrr provide bins and it would not be such a mess!

 

I'm from the south and I dont think that Birmingham is the midland is it not

As for way most shows are held in the midlands or down south it's probably to do wit the ratio of people living down south, not that I'm saying it's right just why it might be!

TBH £15 is about right for a show now days. Some are even more!!

 

Yes shows are getting more expensive now the main one is event insurance
This year is our 5th NBO and i have seen the insurance costs doubled in the last 2 years

fortunely in our NBO concept we have very little costs and all the spectator money and raffle money goes straight to the chosen charity and is handed over on the day

we have raised over £10 k in the last 4 years .
this year we have set our new target of over £5k for the day

If It was a private show we would have to probably charge over £10 just to get in but Lightwater valley are great with us as all money goes to charity and we dont get charged for field hire,toilets or burger vans etc .and all marshalls etc are club volenteers and we have over 20 and 10 on a committee imagine if we had to pay 20 marshalls say £5 an hour for 8 hours !!!

Last year we I remembered 1 tight fisted scooby driver who complained the £5 for the car was too much FFS !!! there is always one in the 400 who atended probably the same bloke who went to the Blackpool Big one who wouldnt pay to jgo into the car park so parked up over the road and walked in !!
this year we will be charging £6 for the car load as we feel on the NBO committee that a £1increase is nothing but will give us an extra £350-400 on gate fees which will help with the money in the charity pot as we have a special new fundraiser idea which will be anounced shorty.

 

It may be the Midlands for England but not the UK. Plus all the quickest scoobs come from the North of the UK.

venue
event staff on site, parking, admin, al sorts of bdies
security
staff catering
publicity
administration
insurance - event and public liability
signage (RAC/AA stuff)
pre event meetings - out of pocket expenses organising this excluding your time of course
Pre event organising/support/staff/admin
design and printing of tickets and other adverising materials
H&S risk assesments
the list goes on...

You take a big risk putting on event like these which solely rely an attendance to generate revenue. There is also a huge amount of time involved in the process

 

Personally I think £15 is cheap, more so in comparison to TOTB (which is still cheap!)

Last year was enjoyable, except for the damn weather!!!

£15 is the going rate for a motorsport event, however low key.
