Hands up
If you have gotten out of Subaru ownership in the last year or so?
Are you financially better off?
Do your friends still laugh at what you drive?
Will you be buying another one?
Are you glad you sold up?
My answers ......
1. I am finacially better off by a country mile
2. Yes my friends still laugh at what I drive, but now it's only because it's cheap clutter. No longer can they take the mickey out of the ironing board stuck on the boot or the fact there are a family of Gypsys hidden in my exhaust.
3. No i wont be buying another one, I have grown out of them
4. You're damned right i'm glad I sold up, get more of a buzz driving my new car.
What about you?

Looking at my fuel receipts at the end of the month guts me.
A rear shock failure in my '02 STI promises to cost me £500 +
The constant desire to add or change bits is frustrating
But I love driving it.
Have considered getting a daily commute for £500 but at the end of the day that's just more money in insurance and maintenance etc.
def think you need to have a comfortable income to own 1 without the wallet being constantly empty
I'm almost beaten.

I'm selling mine shortly after burying my head in the sand for 15 months then finally working out that my car had cost me over 700 quid a month in maintenance, repairs and mods plus fuel etc.
so with a heavy heart its being sold

Mine does cost me a small fortune to run, but i am very lucky to be in a position at the moment that i don't have many other things to pay each month (no mortgage etc).
I would never sell it becasue of what other people think about is, especially with this myth about people laughing at them and their image.
If people want to laugh because of your spoiler or their opinion of your car then they are quite sad, i am sure there are things they own which would make others laugh at them.
People who sell their Impreza's because of the image of them worry me, as where do you stop? Sell your house if others don't like the look, leave your wife because her hair colour is unfashionable?
I will keep my car for as long as i can afford to run it.
Yes i'd be better off financially without it, but wouldn't have as much fun driving (which i do a lot of, so having a car i like is important to me)

As far as Imprezas go, the only reason I can see someone laughing at it is ignorance. In my (so far short) ownership experience though, people either walk into things because they're staring at it, or look down their nose in disgust at "the horrible obnoxious looking world killing car" - which they'd do anyhow unless you were driving one of those ugly honda hybrid things.
And anyone who buys a car like an Impreza and then expects it to be cheap to run, is, in my honest opinion, a bit of an idiot. It strikes me a bit like saying "I bought this Ferrari, but its crap because the insurance is a bit steep".

As for other people laughing, i wonder what thy drive and what makes them think they are so much better or drive a far superior car, sad really.
The Impreza offers great handling and performance ou of the box. This will always came at a price. I would think a few people have been caught out by running costs but run any performance car as a daily driver and with few exceptin it will cost £££'s more than say perhaps a Mundeo 1.6lx
Currently not driving a Scoob, in a Pug 406 TD. May buy another scoob, may not. Glad i had one for a while, it was a blast.
I think buying a scob or any car like that is a puchase you make with your heart not your necessarily your head and that's a good thing!

The only car I would sell my impreza for, is another one
No way do people look down their nose at it or laugh at it - that is done out of jealousy because the POS they are rattling around in is about as thrilling as a kick in the pods
I think that those peeps that say they are selling it becuase of the image it has, are the ones spreading the rumor that they have this imaginary image...
What a load lol

You forget Dave ownes a Porsche 944 Turbo, nice car BTW
I do find it a bit shallow that you can be stereotyped by what you drive and be looked down on by others who feel so much superior by what they drive
#17
Lets not get started on the Porsche driver reputation then huh?
You'd think there would be some solidarity between drivers here wouldn't you?!
A 944? Hmmm... Not wanting to get into a slagging match but I'm sure theres plenty of Porsche owners who'd doubt the validity of that as a Porsche..

Does make you wonder if people need to feel superior then there is something missing and/or an inferiority complex going on.
Whilst driving my scoob it never made feel like superman or better than other roadusers, usually other users seemed to have the chip on thier shoulders, not all but some

I have respect for most other car makes, it is just a shame other owners can't be the same.
(FWIW i love the Porsche 944, was the first performance car i ever went in as my uncle used to have one, would love a turbo one myself)

I can see why some people would think Subaru's are a bit OTT, but I can also see why so many people absolutely love them. To 'look down your nose' at somebody for the car they drive is a bit retarded imho, and the person doing it probably isn't worth worrying about.
