Do you HAVE to use optimax type fuels?
Just a quick question, do you have to use these super fuels on a standard setup impreza turbo?
do they increase the life of the engine or just the speed?
and has anyone ever jus run there car on the normal unleaded?
dont get me wrong, if it neds to be optimax, optimax it shall have, thanks for any advice in advance.
Jim.

Using V-Power or similar allows the engine to run more ignition advance without getting detonation. The result of this is a better performing engine, if detonation occurs for long enough it can burn through a piston resulting in a new engine or at best a engine re-build. I have seen the results of using poor fuel on my car on a rolling road. The car normally put's out 360 bhp but either due to a bad batch of optimax or wrong fuel being put in the tank it only pushed out 340 before the mapper backed off due to det. Couple of weeks later pushed out 362 on Optimax with a bottle of octane booster.

my wrx is import so was used to being run on 100 ron fuel. since ive had it ive always used Shell V-Power which is 99 ron and the closest you can get to jap fuel.
you can use super unleaded 97 for normal driving probly but normal 95 ron unleaded is a no no.
not only do you get extra power out of v-power it also protects and cleans the inside of your engine gets rid of all the sh^t that sticks inside, which can only be a good thing.

I have... with mine... was told when i bought it that it would run fine on unleaded and just to whack a tank of super in every few hundred miles!!!!!
DON'T DO IT !!!!!!
my car was running like a bag of spanners.... took it ASPerformance @ Birtley... and Alyn advised me to change to V Power (the old optimax)... what a difference it's made to the car...... runs better now then when i bought it!!!!!

I ran my uk 99 turbo wagon normal unleaded when I first got mine. I hated how it ran. Then tried super, not much difference. Now on that Ferrari stuff at Shell. Have run 3 tanks and is running more cleanly. Still a bit lumpy esp when warming up (but understand its a charicteristic (sp?) of these cars) but does run more cleanly overall and power is better. The additional cost is about £2 if that per tank. So what!

I was told by subaru to use v-power as in the sti if normal unleaded is used it can drop the power to the same as a wrx. Big difference.

it only says that for other markets, in the manual it says 95 is fine, on a standard UK Impreza not a problem, nothing will happen, I have not noticed a jot of difference. It has a knock sensor for just this reason.
But if you are tuning then yes better fuel is a good idea

If you have a Newage WRX you CAN use 95 ron without damaging your engine - however, you'll lose the financial benefit since the economy (if that word can be used in the same sentence as "Impreza" !) is better on Super, and it runs better on Super too.
Best to go for V Power - 99 ron.

That's not true mate.
I'm looking at my 2001 Owners Manual right now. Under "Fuel", it reads "Turbo models (except Sti version) - Your engine is designed to use only unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 95 or higher".
It goes on to say that on Sti models 98 ron fuel should be used, but that if this is not available 95 or higher may be used. However, use of fuel with a lower rating than 98 will detract from engine performance"
Damn, I feel good now !
