When i had my M3 I used to struggle to keep with STI's and Evo's from 0 upto 100ish. They never blew me away but they were definatley quicker, although rolling from 70 mph up i faired slightly better.

i would say the road and weather conditions would be a major factor here..in poor weather be it rain, snow, etc or crappy lincolnshire style potholed B roads i would say the impreza, if it was a straight line motorway race and you were speeding between 70mph upwards, maybe the m3.i suppose the drivers skill (or stupidness) would have an effect too maybe.

For a bit of a laugh, have a look at this. It doesn't list the MY06.

I out gunned a mate in his 2004 M3 from standstill on a French motorway and that was in my standard MY05 WRX, so I guess an STi would have done even better. He was gaining ground at around 70mph but by 120 he was going backwards. We were both 2's up and my mate who was passenger in the M3 (big Beemer fan) said the driver was gutted he couldn't 'do me over'

A MY05 WRX is actually 221bhp 4x4 obviously helped get the power down quicker than him, plus I have many break horse in my right foot . I am just reporting this particular occasion and as it was a mate I would guess them saying they tried and was gutted is enough to give this merit! Thanks for being a believer

E46 M3's are not all that.
I had a race with one with my MY05 STI PPP. Put it this way the guy was gutted and I wasn't excited by this cus I expected to beat him anyway.
Had I have lost I would have gone back to the Subaru and complained!!
I suppose the M3 would be quicker above 100mph rolling start, but from standstill a properly launched STI will leave an M3 and a PPP'd one will whoop it just like I did.
To be honest most M3 drivers I come across don't even try, and as we all know there are alot of M3's on the road.
I suppose the CSL would be a different story though

Whatever you want to think is up to you - I am just relaying a fact that I was quicker than an M3 in a drag race that went up to 150mph over in France. We are not talking twisties here - straight line. I doubt someone would own an M3 if he couldn't apply full throttle and change when he needs. The 0-60 is 5.0 which is barely noticable compared to the WRX. It was also a mate so I know he was trying. I shall not rise to any more of your German war machine propoganda....now eat my dust Adolph

And this was with the same, highly talented driver behind the wheel as Don Palmer was doing demonstration laps in both cars. The M3 was considerably slower.
The other car we had was a GT3 which was a hair's whisker faster than the Spec C with Don at the wheel.

I had the opportunity to have an E46 Cabriolet v Spec C (same power as STi, a tad lighter than a standard Sti) on track and the Spec C was considerably faster. Certainly faster than the difference between a Spec C and an STi.

Can't you read?
As I also experienced the difference between the Spec C and the Sti seemed smaller, the M3 Cab seemed quite slow by comparison.

See if you can see a copy of the japs on Best Motoring BMI Vol 18 - New STi fast on four.. compares hawkeye Spec C against M3/Audi S4/Merc AMG.. M3 and Merc have to back off entering flat corner at 200 km/h (and 200km/h slalom!), Audi & Scoob don't... Subaru comes out top of whole test!... this is where the Scoobs advantage is... Different sort of car???
M3's are nice... Don't think they attract same sort of enthusiasts IMHO

I've already told you once...it's 221 as standard Flat4 - read closely...it was a mate, he was trying, we discussed several times that weekend...usually brought up by me obviously No idea why you think an M3 is soooo hot. They are nice cars, but I don't think there will be much in it in a straight line whatever figures you can pull out the manufacturer's manual.
I never said 'smoked an M3', I out gunned him (which was several car lengths by 150mph).
