Default subaru diesel engine

apparantly it debuts next month at the geneva motor show but today i saw a cut away picture of the actual engine itself, looks chain driven with the turbo at the bottom of the engine just about where the uppipe would start with the intercooler in the same place as the wrx/sti, looks amazing in the pics

I'll be interested to hear what it's like. Last year I changed my STI for a diesel, which meant test driving a fair selection of current models with diesel engines. The BMW 330D that I ended up buying was by far the best - not just much more powerful than the alternatives, but smoother and much better sounding too.

At the other end of the scale, the engine in the new Lexus IS220d - one of Toyota's first attempts at a diesel engine if I'm not mistaken - was rubbish.
