Should buy a £4k Sportwagen?
I need a cheap but fun estate to replace my thirsty beast of an Audi Allroad 2.7T and I've seen a few imported Sportwagen's for £4k to £5k. Not having owned a scooby before but liking the look I thought I'd ask the experts a few questions:
1. Will a £4k car be a dog?
2. Servicing costs?
3. The dreaded mpg?
4. Is there anything I should be looking for when I buy?
I've seen these guys, who are not far from me:
MVI Services
Are they any good?
Any help much appreciated

Hello mate,
Bought my wagon from there in October last year. Had to change weeping rocker covers, front crank seal, disks and pads all round, and backbox as the original had a whole in it. He is very "helpful" but to be honest I wouldn't buy another one from him. The alarm he fitted is now playing up and it sounds as though there may be a problem with either the heat shield or piston slap.
Also when I asked him what fuel he used he said mostly 95Ron and on occassion 97
I suppose I'm to blame I should have walked away from it but the flat four burble just blinded me!!!

mpg is crap. I get about 250 miles to a tank. Thats mostly around town driving, but then I'm not light on the throttle.
I had to change back pads. Check drop links. Check colour of oil etc all the usual.
I love the car so under average mpg doesn't bother me too much. To be honest whatever car Ive had I can't seem to get decent miles out of it!!!
I paid about £5500 for a 99 from a dealer. He was a twonk too!
