Hi,
Wanted some opinions on the new model scooby vs the older blob eye. I am still hunting around at the moment for mine so trying to make my mind up on the car to get (usual decisions: jdm or uk etc).
Couple of hawk eye STi's have started circulating through my companies network (work for an automotive related company) and they are not a bad price for a brand new STi but I am not sure if they are better.
I have heard the 2.5 block is not as easy to tune as the 2.0 litre lumps, is this true and what are they like to drive on a daily basis?
I plan to go for something like the TSL333 or Powerstation package as it seems this is a worthwhile upgrade to bring the best out of the cars (and a decent handling package). Are there similar options for the 2.5 litre lumps and what kind of gains can you expect from those engines?
JDM hawk eyes have 2.0 litre lumps? (or is that only the spec c models)
And finally what kind of styling mods can you do to beef up the front of the hawk eyes because frankly, they look a bit daft and saab like. From certain angles they cars look really good but too me they just seem to soft now compared to the aggressive (skyline GTR style) look the blob eyes have. And they really shouldn't have put lexus style rear light clusters.. that would be the first thing that needs changing, if you can get anything at the moment..
Adios,
Fz

Powerstation do an upgrade for the 2.5 as well as the 2.0, so no problem there:

The 2.5 with upgrade gives c. 340bhp, the 2.0 320bhp, same price. I'd go for the 2.5 myself![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

hmm I am still not convinced on the looks of the car.. the front end seems to thing and pointy and those lexus rear lights need sorting out big time.
Seen a hawk eye with a Type 25 spoiler kit in autotrader, looked pretty nice with the big alloys as well...

Well I owned an 03 wrx, did very few mods (exhaust upto downpipe, smallish spoiler, alloys, dump valve and stereo).
Just bought a 07 wrx and havn't gone above 3500 rpm at the mo (only upto 800miles). But the power delivery low down is hugely different to the 2.0 litre.
As for mpg, its difficult to tell as its running in, but at 60-65 mph I'm getting 29-31, my 2 litre used to do 31-34.
I didn't like the looks of the hawkeye when it first came out, but the more I saw them, it grew on me.
As soon as I've done another 1k miles or so, I'll shout up with regards my opinion of performance.
Hope this helps.

As for pistons, UK 2ltrs run "forged" pistons, 2.5's run hypereuetic (sp) pistons, JDM 2ltrs run Hypereuetic pistons (twin scroll), but the 2ltr ones are considerably stronger than the 2.5's and they are also stronger than the UK's "forged" pistons.
Hope that helps

comparing my blob eye sti to the hawk eye sti, i would say that its a much easier car to live with, and a lot easier to keep on the boil. The old sti required more gear changing to keep on boost but the power is now more linear, neither have the ppp. I find the car pulls a lot more and i like the new diff set up, with prodrive springs the turn in is better and allows oversteer easier than the previous sti. I plan to up the power at some point in the next few months once i get rid of the bridgestone tyres. There are quite a few people on nasioc that have about 400bhp from standard internals with no issues, 350 or there abouts will do me, with some new brakes too!

Ok Tony don't rub it in about comfort driving, mind you I have just bought the wife a new Mondeo 2.2 st tdci and I must admit its nice to drive with all the extras sometimes feel like I could fall asleep at the wheel at times not like the RA tho that keeps you awake only cos you have to keep your eye on the fuel guage.

Going to check out a WR Blue Hawk Eye STi, 06 reg. Completely standard and only a few k's on the clock so should be a minter.
After seeing it in the flesh, I have to admit the hawk-eye is really starting to win me over in terms of looks, its lost the aggressive appearance of the blob-eye but I think as a future car its where the money is.
Once tuners get used to the 2.5 engine I am sure we will see some pretty serious packages being released. I don't plan to take the car above 360 bhp but want the Torque on tap so I don't have to put so much work into the driving.
We shall see, also taking a look at a late 06 blob-eye, gonna test drive them back to back and see how the ppp on the blob-eye compares (should give me some things to think about before making my purchase).
