my scoob is currently my daily drive but whats the point of 200+ bhp and all wheel drive sitting in the daily commute?
so iam thinking of swapping/selling mine (MY03 STi) and getting a cheap daily commute diesel and having a 'toy' (2 door 'classic' shape) for track and weekend play time

Has any one done this?
how have you made your scoob your track/weekend toy and what insurance have you got

My well specced Type R is only used at weekends (i think ive done 10k in 3.5 years as much as i love the car it does have to go as its not practical or worth keeping just for weekends

Mine did 1200 miles last year, as for insurance I pay £850 ish fully comp (02 wrx) To put this into perspective if the car was still standard it would cost me £250 ish

I'm the same - 53 plate sti but hate using it for work because of the traffic and the multi storey car park where I have to park. Consequently only used at weekends but even then I dont use it if I'm going shopping etc. Done 10k in 2 years but on the plus side its dent free Despite the life in the garage I still spend hundreds on the bloody thing.

£750.00 to insure with mods but use a x reg 306 HDI for work which the mrs has insured for £200.00

My 330bhp blobeye wrx is for fun only.

I drive a 1.0ltr 3 cylinder corsa to work no power steering but £118 insurance for year and 53 to the gallon

My baby will be a weekend/drive when i can toy. Working in sales is fruitful but working the hours to get the coin is a different matter. IIn the process of rebuilding it but should be running in about a months time. Another scoob brought back to life.

I have a company car.. New civic type R.. aint too shabby.

Mine is my everyday car. The major traffic jams I get most days is wreaking havoc with my petrol consumption

Use mine as a normal every day car for work during the week then at weekends going out and about with our family of 4. Great all round car and practicle with it.

Use mine for the everyday commute to work, bloody frustrating at times not being able to use the power due to traffic congestion

It never ever goes shopping though, we take the missus' Micra for that

Every day car for me and my track car.....
I try to track it as often as i can (around 6 track days last year, 1 circuit trainging day and 1 airfield training day)
I'm in the time attack series this year, as well as scooby shoot out.
Car is reasonably modded with pretty much just the body and interior being original now and my insurance was hardly affected

I will be flamed for this but the scoob isn't the best car for a track day car. They are pretty heavy, need a fair few mods to make them truley competant and go through consumables quickly.

If track days are your thing something like an Elise is the way forward.

If you want a weekend car the scoob is fine.

I bought my track day car on the strength of the mods I would have needed to make to the scoob to make it a competant performer.

A fair and true comment though......
My friend bought a track prepared 944 for less money that it would have taken to upgrade the brakes and suspension on his scoob... and that would have been the absolute minimum he needed to do.

That's where I was coming from essexboy30 From memory I was quoted around £2K on suspension upgrades and another £1500 on brakes. I bought and built my track car for less........

Just a weekend car and used on my days off, I only work 16 days a month I have a Polo for the trip the office/station.

£490 I think full comp with all mods.

I Would like to do a few track days but I don't fancy killing the scoob. I have an MX5 which I think would be more suited being RWD(read more fun) and cheaper to fix should anything happen.

I walk to where i'm working at the mo so the scoob only comes out in fine weather. It's rather clean

Every day car The commute isn't bad and I'm often all over the country so I like a nice car. Gotta Caterham for the track

My every day car, my commute to work isn't in rush hour (work shifts) so it's quite fun to drive it.

Personally, if I were going to have a weekend car I'd have something rediculous, like a westfield or caterham or something..

My type R WRC V/LTD does not come out of the garage much, only if the weather is nice.only done 2000 miles in 2 years £660 to insure it and certainly dont do track days.A bit of a waste of money i think, some times untill i drive it and it's well worth the dosh.I do tend to wrap my car in cotton wool,DAFT I KNOW! is anyone else abit over protective of their pride and joy or am i just a freak.

I did use mine every day for about 6 months, but then decided I was sick of spending all my money on petrol just to sit in traffic, so now I've got a 1.2 punto which I only have to put a tenner in a week. Means more money to play with the scoob.

I have an 1995 STi RA (limited mileage policy up to 2,500 per annum) and insurance is £400 fully comprehensive.

Oh the joy of being 40 years old later this year:

1. Car insurance comes down.
2. Hairline goes up.
3. Waistline beyond control.

Just wait till you are as grey as me.

My Hillclimb mildly modded Sti V3 cuts 3000 miles a year, 10 hillclimb weekends and soaks up just too much cash.
The cheapest car i own to run etc is the one on the right.
Modified, agreed value, unlimited miles, runs on petro or orange juice it is so tolerant, and built solid.
Insurance = £125.
The one on the left = £800 for 3000 miles

My STI only gets used to and from work which is always an insentive not to ring in sick.
I work shifts so I don't really get to sit in heavy traffic which is good

On my days off I don't really go out in it (sad I know, married life) but if I had to sit in heavy traffic I would drive an old shed knowing how many uninsured careless drivers there are about.

i know there are better track cars out there but i got scooby in my blood at the moment and i cannot shift it, so until that goes scoob it is

i am a little surprised at how expensive insurance for trackday/weekend only
A friend runs a M3 (E30 i think the old one on an E,G,H plate) he got a competition insurance that basically allows him to drive to the track on TPFT for about £300 per year. Of course no insurance on track thats another story but for limited road use i do not want to be paying more (£650 fully comp) than i do already or is that the way it is?

mine is everday car at the moment but soon to come off the road for some heavey mods and then it is weekend toy only and il be going to work in a 206 gti then
