Default Advice on buying an Impreza Sport

Seen an Impreza Sport estate at my local garage, its the classic shape on an X plate done 62,000 miles they want 4295.

Could anyone please give me the spec on this model and the things I should look out for if I do decide to buy the car.

I used to have a sport before I moved up to a turbo ..fab cars, same sound, cheaper to insure etc, just not the speed, though your fule bill is lower

search for scooby_mad on here (darren) and he will point you in the right direction

probably, but there are better estate cars that are cheap to run out there compared to a impreza sport methinks, but a turbo wagon is a different kettle of fish so to speak, i would probably get an a4 estate or something if i had too.

With the Sport you get the reliability, handling and grip of the Impreza without the cost that comes with the turbo (and without the performance, of course!). On that basis they make a good buy IMHO.
I would have thought you could have got a Newage for that money though....

I had a Impreza Sport when i was 18 then got a 2003 WRX which i still have at 20.

Good Cars imo, put a set of WRX 17inch Wheels in gold and a H&S Back box and centre pipe, and i was well happy with that.

imho £4295 seems not a lot, but id say at the higher end of the pricing scale. i would do a little research and have a look round privatley as im sure you could get cheaper to be honest. im nov 05 i payed £2600 for a 98 r-plate white saloon sport from a garage to compare price wise.

try Parker's and have a look at their used pricing thingy. give you an idea of what to pay, minus adjustments for mileage, condition etc. comprehensive list of impreza's too.

did the hard work for you...

Subaru Impreza Estate 2.0 Sport 4WD 5d Valuation - Parker's - 2000 x-plate

Subaru Impreza Estate 2.0 Sport 4WD 5d Valuation - Parker's - 2001 x-plate.

seems you are getting ripped off my son

Thanks Chris for the recomadation mate.

You are almost right, but sports as they are don't sound anything like a turbo, but thats not to say you can't get the same note from one, which is what I am going, but fitting a Borla un equal length exhaust headers with a H&S centre and backbox.

Sports are great cars to own. They handle great, the insurance is (maybe) cheaper than a turbo, very reliable, maybe more so than a turbo (less to go wrong). The power, depending on which model you go for, depending on what engine his has. Phase 1 with 118ps up until 98 which is a pre facelift model with the old style dash, then theres the Phase 2 which I have with 125ps with the facelifted front end and dash.

Fuel consumption, depending on how you drive depends on how much you will get to a tank. I can get about £280 out of a full tank with mixed driving styles.

I love my sport. Most impreza drivers all want a turbo at some point after owning a sport, so the message realy is don't spend all your hard earned on the car modding it but to put the money aside for a turbo.

All this information and more can be found on imprezasport.net if you have not been and registered on there yet.

I don't think 2L sports are that much better on fuel than Turbos.

Sure, if your "on-boost" all the time a turbo will drink fuel but I found when Optimax was available and my Turbo was mapped to Optimax I got more MPG from mine than my friend in his R reg Sport.

Another thing that gets me is that Sports aren't that much less to buy than Turbos. I've seen the black sport specials on X plates being asked for more than a turbo of hte same year.

Not everybody can afford to buy nor run a turbo at a young age.

Theres the Insurance and service costs,

Yea the Turbo might be a little or same money to buy as a Sport but you have to think of the other expenses on the car as well.
