i noticed a much quicker response and spooled up 500rpm earler and was much more lively !! the front wheels spun in 2nd and 3rd (slightly wet !) but generally much better than before.. peaked at 1.18kgfm and fealt a whole lot smoother boosting too ! a top upgrade !! didnt realise the std sti downpipe was strangling the engine so much with that cat in it ! thanks to john at elite exhausts in ayr !

I'll just say that if this is a UK STi id get it remapped, engines aint cheap, acutally if its any new age STi id get it remapped as all the engines will have a problem with a decat, wrx's are ok, JDM classics..... wouldnt risk it on a v5/6 without a remap either.
As for strangling, yes the cat does, a sports cat like a PPP one doesnt, it will flow as much though as the decat will but you wont fail your roadside emissions tests

Is that true Tony ? I've only got the Prodrive sports cat on my STi and was considering De catting it as it's just passed it's MOT and would give me 12 months before i had to worry about replacing it for the next one.
If there would be little differnce then i might well re consider

ive got a brand new ppp down pipe to be fitted to my sti before it goes for a remap and looking at the size of the cells i cant see how this can cause a restriction as each cell is about the size of a bic pen.

Mike Wood from Prodrive went into this subject a little deeper but the sports cat flows as much gas as a decat if not more due to the size of the cat, even though there are cores in there, so replacing the sports cat with a decat pipe gives no benefit except the hassle of needing a remap and the cost of the pipe and fitting.
