Blow Dog - How's the new Evo?

Monsieur Dog,
from what I gather, I guess you should have picked up your new motor. How is the TM and how does it compare to the GSR, is it worth the extra cash?
Cheers,
MS - Fellow Evolite

Martin,
I shall try to help as best I can.
I bought my Makinen, because basically, with the insurance pay out, I could afford it. If I still had my GSR, I wouldnt have bothered though, the GSR is a mighty fine car in its own right. Also, where a clean GSR can be picked up for £22-£23k, a Mak will set you back at least £30 today. You have to consider whether you think £7k is worth it for all the extras you get, which you do get a lot of. Although as a whole, they don't contribute to much. What you get, as an extra over the GSR, is the following:
Revised suspension set up,
Uprated turbo internals (lighter titanium)
New colour coding (interior and exterior, and if you get it in Red, like mine, you get the mad decals )
New revised front skirt which improves airflow into the airbox and oil cooler
White Enkei wheels
New exhaust backbox with wider aperture
and loads of other little things which I cant be bothered to list.
As far as differences over GSR, I don't know
I am only on 760 miles so I am still running it in. Although one thing I do know is it doesn't half get you the looks. Serious stardom. I think that it has more road presence than any other car on the road, short from spending £100k.
I love it, I still havent tested it yet in terms of performance, but if I am happy using 20% of its performance, I am sure I am gonna be ecstatic later.
Come over to the Essex meet and see for yourself.

I don't doubt you get looks.. but I shouldn't think many of them are envious ones. A Red Evo ? Plastic-central. Yeuch.
I can think of many cars with greater road presence for under £30K.
Enjoy it though, they are fast beasts.

BlowDog,can I ask if you have purchased a RalliArt car? If you have what are the ways to tell it is a RalliArt one and not an Import?
Also while at an import dealers yesterday, they said they have got a red Mak with Del miles for £28K.
I take it when you say £22-23K for a EVO VI you mean used and not new?
Sorry for all the questions but I am looking at a few cars over the weekend with a view to purchasing one, thanks for any help.

John,
I dont know if you noticed, but I have learnt to turn a deaf ear to Kevin. He is a rude arrogant insensitive fool who has no desire to make friends with me. Since the accident, he has had nothing good to say to me and therefore I have decided to ignore his comments.
Mark,
Thanks a lot, the fun gets better...I mean, who in their right mind washes their car in the rain?
David,
Horses for courses. Never said the looks were envious ones, but I still get them, people pointing, cars stopping etc. People who know the car, respect it. People who don't, however, think it looks pathetic. Me...I know the car
Regardless, thanks for the vote of confidence.
Ian,
Differences are basically 3 year warranty from Ralliart and a plaque by the gearstick. The warranty dies as soon as you add a backbox to the car, and the plaque? Well, you decide if it is worth £5k. £28k for an import is a good price. I paid a little under that for a 500miler. Ralliart quoted me just under £34k for a new red Makinen (don't forget, red Maks are more expensive) But be careful, there are a lot of dogs out there, I went to see one and it turned out it was a ringer, they do a lot of round the world trips via Dubai, if you know what I mean.
Yeah, when I said that price range, I meant for a used GSR. They are awesome cars and well worth the money, pound for pound. But get a test drive, I put a deposit down on one as soon as I had a test drive.
Good luck

Hi Blowdog,
Sorry to hear about your unlucky incident... Glad to hear that the most important bit was relatively unharmed... that would be you.
I hope I still get a ride in your new car...
Does the Mak really have that much more road presence than Adam's bucket of bolts?
Take care!
Moray

I knows the cars.. I respect their technical abilities. But like most people, I think they look god-awful in Red or White.
Now the deep metallic blue ones look very nice.. but then you don't stop traffic with it, and people scratching their heads saying "what the hell's THAT ugly thing?"
But.. as you intimate, the cognoscenti brave the looks for such a drive.
.. it's all a matter of taste (or lack of)

Hi Cem,
Glad to see you got one. Sod all the jibes I think Red looks great.
It is the only true 'rally replica' on sale today, as the 22b was a couple of years ago.
I can't stop tinkering with mine, I have just added a set of 18in Speedline GT1's in white with SO2's, they really fill the arches and give it the tarmac spec look.
The looks it gets are amazing, David you clearly don't like it but you are a little harsh in assuming everbody thinks they look awful and the drivers lack taste.
Mine gets admiring glances everywhere and always attracts positive comment when I park it.
Personally it's the dogs b**llocks and I wouldn't change it for anything else.
Kevin.

Unlike another comment mine was light hearted as I think you know me well enough. It's your money spend it how you like. I happen to like Evo6's and particularly Makkinen's in red. I like my Scoob but I don't drive it with rose tinted specs on. My criteria on buying a new car is always the same - what's quick and affordable - i'm a motor mercenary!!!
See you tomorrow!

Hunty,
Here here...I couldnt agree more.
Moray,
Thanks mate. It was unfortunate that we werent able to go out again after our initial get-together. We gotta get Adam to bring his skip with him next time, huh?
David,
Why are you so insistent on assuring me that a car I have spent an awful amount of money on is actually a patheticaly ugly car?
How is it you know that the majority of people think the Red/White car is hideous? Is there a secret survey you have conducted which resolves this fact?
Thought not, allow me to be the judge of my own taste.
Cem (getting fed up with the crap I am getting on this board recently)
ps.
Dave,
I know I am looking forward to meeting you tommorow, make sure you say hello!

You would think people would be happy for you. You have been through enough with the unfortunate accident. I love the Mak Evo6 and think that you have to have it in red or you may as well have a normal gsr. I saw one at the motor show and it looked identical to the rally car. Accidents can happen to everyone, does not have to be your fault.
Good Luck with the new car.

Don't let people with no manners (or brain in some cases) drive you away.
For what it's worth (and why should you care ?), I think your car looks the dogs danglies. Red roolz

I certainly don't view my Scooby with rose-tinted glasses. Mine is just a workhorse. I've been considering adding an Evo to my collection for some time now and I'm just trying to find the right one.
Along my travels I must have spoken to tens, perhaps up to a hundred people on the subject of getting and Evo - and yet everyone has said that they don't like them in red (or worse, white). Though I'm sure if I had one, nobody would tell me this (no-one tells a mother her baby is ugly)
These people (admittedly mainly Scooby owners) must represent the minority of public opinion, so I bow to you, Hunty, DocJock, CJen et al for correcting my view of what most people like. The masses have spoken.
Blow Dog, it was not my intention to offend you in any way - and I'm sorry if I've come across a little strong.

Cem,
The Red Mak is a great looking car. I personaly prefer darker colours, but I still like the Mak in Red. It suits the rally theme.
Anyway, you bought the car for you. Not for everyone else.
Enjoy the car, I know I would.
