New member and need some advice on a 2002 WRX
Yesterday afternoon i went to see the following and what can i say
It is a Black 52 Reg SUBARU Impreza 2.0 WRX 4WD with 57,000 miles, 1 owner from new with full Subaru main dealer history.
It is the first one i have looked at but was very impressed, bodywork wise it was mint and could only find one small scuff on the front bumper.
Engine wise i will be honest i don't know anything about these engines and looking under the bonett just scared me!
I test drove the car and it was so nice to drive and pulled very well.
Today i have been looking into the running costs of the WRX and below are a few questions.
Servicing, i spoke to a company called "Triton Motorspor" who say they specialise in Subaru servicing etc, they quoted me £125 for a fluidchange on diff and box etc, £125 for an interim oil change and £290 for a full service.
The car has done 57,000 miles and last had a full service incl cambelt change at Subaru at 53,000 miles in October 2006. When should the car be serviced next and what sort of service?
Usually i service my own cars and change brakes etc, on the WRX is it difficult to change for instance the pads and discs? is it a DIY job or not, i am just trying to weigh up the overall running cost on the car before i take the plunge and buy it. The car does come with 12 months warranty which is a good start.
Insurance wise A plan can cover me Fully Comp for £1740 (22 with 3 years NCB and driving 5 years) the next cheapest price was £1840 with Bell Direct, Greenlight said i was too young do you guys know of any other companies?
Petrol wise i know they are not going to be cheap, on a standard WRX running on Vpower, what sort of miles will i get from say £20 driving around town?
Sorry for all the questions but i want to make the right decision and hope you guys can advise me where poss - Thanks in advance!

You must be in the Bournemouth area?
Triton do indeed specialise in Subarus, I take my car there, they have a good reputation.
Where abouts is the car for sale? seems a good price with the warranty too.
£20 will probably get you 90-100 fun filled miles or 140-150 sedate ones

Hi mate, heres a little info for you.
The car should be serviced every 10,000 miles, unfortunatly the next service the car would be due is a big one (60,000) which will be approx £300-400. Its basically all the oils, spark plugs, filters etc. You can get servicing kits from certain Subaru specialists if you want to do it yourself.
Brakes are a doddle to do both discs and pads.
Insurance, I'm with A-plan as I couldn't beat their quote anywhere.
As paul37 says for the MPG.
Running costs aren't that bad for what the car is, its not cheap though. 12 months tax is now £205 and it takes approx £40-48 to fill the tank for which I can get anything between 180-300 miles per tank (driving dependant ).
Hope this helps.

Thanks for all you replies so far,
I will contact keith michaels tomorrow to try and get a cheaper premium.
I live in London, i only contacted Triton to give me an idea on costs really and they were really helpful and would be willing to travel to the right garage to get good service.
The car is for sale just outside London and i am very impressed with the condition etc.
Tbh after looking under the bonett i would not know where to start with regards to servicing, i service my cars usually but the layout on the WRX is completely different and dont think i would attmept it myself, i will read more into the engine and maintaining it as i like to know what im driving!
So you guys think that £7995 is a fair price for an 02 plate WRX with FSSH and only 1 owner?
Thanks again peps!

I think 7995 with warranty is good. i looked a lots of these and 7500 is about right private for a standard one in very good condition so that extra 400 is a good peace of mind.
make sure you know EXACTLY what is and isnt covered in the warranty. some dont cover parts like the turbo.
regarding insurance have you tried confused.com online? they will search the best quote out for you. it;s worth a go as i have saved several hundred pounds by looking about and i'm sure with that big service in the future anything less than 1700 is a bonus.
you really do want to get service books stamped as tempting as it is to do stuff like that yourself. when it comes to selling and people see blank intervals they tend to worry and walk away.

Hi Mate - I'm 24 and just bought my 2002 WRX about 2 weeks ago. A-plan were by far the cheapest insurance for me. I run mine on V-power and get about 100 miles on £20, that's a mix of taking it steady along with a little blast
Good luck with your new purchase. I'm loving mine :-)
