Default First post and Forester questions

Hi everybody

It's my first post on this forum and I currently have a 1998 classic turbo which i have had for 9 years and love to bits.

I have got a couple of questions regarding the forester XT and grey import STi.

My wife is thinking of getting a forester 2.5XT but she is also thing about the Forester Sti.
Where would you get a Forester Sti serviced?
What problems are there getting imports insured. She's had a quote for XT at about 408 are Import STi's much more?
Do they come with thatcham alarms?

She likes black Sti with tinted rear windows.
Does anybody know where she could get the windows tinted on a black 2.5XT?

Hope somebody can give some advice.
Enjoy your scoobys

I have a FSTi, was imported via Litchfields earlier this year. Insurance was no problem at all, I used Direct Line. I had the power upgrade also and the insurance company were still OK with that. When they are bought over they have an Thatham Cat 1 alarm fitted in the UK when it goes through the SVA centre. The servicing can be done anywhere, I use the local Subaru garage, it apparently has the same engine as the Impreza Sti (dont quote me on that)so they have all the parts and are more than able to service it. You are supposed to do an oil change every 5000 miles again the local garage will do that and are happy for you to supply your own oil etc. Hope that helps abit Litchfields also give you a three year warranty.

Have a look on the European section of the Forester forum for all your info. It's here:

Europe - Subaru Forester Owners Forum

We have a '99 classic Impreza turbo and a '00 Forester S-Turbo and these days I prefer driving the Forester! I'd love a new XT or STi.

Hello biased .. errm me

I have an MY06 black STi with performance pack bought from Litchfields.

Insurance was no hassle with A-plan, only said I wanted insurance for an STi with Litchfields performance pack and they took it from there. Costs me £450 a year which is £200 less than my MY05 PPP was

My local scoob dealer will service it (you'd need to ask yours) and as far as I'm aware (same as jinkiesjen) it's the same as a 2.5 Sti apart from 4th/5th/6th gears (longer so better for motorway). I think the only body part that's different is the front spoiler which is easy enough to get a hold of.

Came supplied with Thatcham Cat 1 alarm and still had 2 years warranty left.

Only negative points I have so far is the Jap radio is crap (even with an FM expander) and I'm still tracking down a few rattles (looks like from alarm fitting and harder suspension).

I had 2 impreza's before the Foz and dare I say it (yes you do ) I much prefer the Foz. It's better looking (IMHO and nobody can argue it's not better looking than the 'new' one ) more fun to drive, much more stealthy and not a chav mobile like some of the Impreza's I see up here

Top car, I love it Can't see me going back to Impreza's and judging by the increasing number of Foz threads I'm not the only one

Avalyn.

Nice car Avalyn

Thanks for all the info.

My Wife can't make mind up at moment. She's leaning towards UK 2.5XT model in black.
Any body know how much privacy glass would be to be added as an extra. Do subaru fit it as an option?

Elad, there's a place in the West Midlands that can do it for around £120.

They have some sort of link with Forester's Subaru (Independent).

ASk for Sean or Ivan Forester Subaru - Subaru Parts, Subaru Spares, Subaru Breakers

Forester's have several agreements with other services that, are really cheap.

Give them a bell.

Very helpful.

Good Luck.

Saw the VBH video today and I must say it looked stonking.

As an alternative to the Impreza with space in the back for the dog / bike.

They seem to depreciate a hell of a lot though!
Approx £5000 a year judging by prices I've seen.

Wonder if it'll slow down or if they will just be extremely diffiult to shift further down the line.

Has anyone had problems?
