Chav if you change the spacing to try and say something it will not, or if you get a crazy font.

Something that hides the year is cool enough IMO, like P1 WRC, S77 SRT etc,

Its a tough one that - personally I wouldnt, I drive a classic and so by the press' opinion they already have me down as ultra chav.

I think the opinion that they are nouveau chav its because they are so commonplace now.

Dont do it !

Until you see one that you can't resist, ie your name without mucking about with spacing or screws.

I have one. It's a pre-reg one and not a cherished. Cost me £250 - S9 *** and has my initials on the last 3 letters.

I don't think they're `Chav` at all. The plate stays with me when ever I change my car and I also like it that you can't tell how old my cars is (so it doesn't look like I try to keep up with the Jones's in having the latest plate)

100% agree and no i haven't got 1
Just do your car the way you like it and don't worry about what other people think of it, thats the whole point of modding a car, do it to your taste.

I don't like those that are obviously messed around with - spacing and all that, but I've had mine (properly spaced) for over 6 years and I intend to keep it - I don't care if anyone thinks it's Chavvy.

If people don't like them fine.

I agree with Dan. Something simple, like P1 WRC is nice enough.

Changing the spacing and using the screws to change the look is chavy (no offence, only IMO of course).

And really expensive plates, that show off your wealth, are nasty.

Only really any good for prestige/Original cars i have seen private plates on cra* cars like a mondeo and even a rover 200!
I would suggest you save the money you would spend on a plate and get a better car.

I had R10 PUG on my 106 GTi from new, that went with the car and suited it well. Never messed with the spacing or font and that always got positive comments

Ill be getting a private reg soon. They aint chavvy, its a way to personalise your car.

Pity the one I want is on a 1993 Merc though. Just need to wait till its scrapped.

Got mine as a birthday pressie for my 40th, I got N (November), 40 (of course) then my initials, I like it, and it also removes the snob value of new car plates, people dont really know how old your motor is.

Cool and a decent investment if kept legal re font and spacing... Mess about with font and spacing and discover genetalia growing upon your head

cherised plates are smart - go for it - but avoid gay fonts and dodge spacing and screws etc

I had one - was on my V-reg 306....but is too 'new' to fit to my current cars. It's just the name of my business.

I'd say go for it if you like it...who cares what other people think.

Anybody know where J77 Owl is for sale?

For a fee (not sure now but was £2.50 a few years ago) you can trace the owner of a vehicle with the reg details so i can't see why not for a plate on retention. If it's not on retention, even to contact the owner of the car it's on with a view to making an offer for it.
