S204 Vs Type RA-R
So which is considered the better one to have then?
Not that I'm in the market for one (sadly) but if I were which should I be looking at?
What are the differences between the two?
I would have asked on the other thread about who wants one but that seemed to go downhill.

Special sound proofing in the floor of the S204, why would you want that
Whole point is that its a more focused car, noise is a plus, especially if it drowns out all the rattles

They all have the same shell its the subframe thats the biggest difference.
Now it really does depend on what you want, the S204 runs the same engine, has the same engine and oil coolers etc but also has the extra sound proofing, heavier subframe etc, the RA-R is probably a slightly more focused car, having the different subframe and lacking the soundproofing.

I was under the impression that MY05 cars onwards had the same subframe as the Spec C, which gives an increase in wheel base.
Therefore the S204 would share that same subframe. It would be the loss of sound deadening, lightweight panels etc that would allow a Spec C to weigh less.
The 'S' series cars are now STI's way of producing cars that have the 'go' as well as some creature comforts, like BMW's 'M' cars.
Spec C is the starting point for GrpN and therefore does without any creature comforts and is a more focused car, something that not everyone can live with on day to day use.

Its not the subframe it was the geometry that was different, the subframe on the spec c is somewhat different because it removes a rather large piece of metal (which is heavy) hence you get the weight savings.
The spec c still has a different subframe, suspension etc over the standard sti.

How do they manage to get away with reomving this rather large piece of metal. I mean, they are not going to fit ballast to the STi just to slow it down, it must have been doing something useful?
