Oh, Bollox!!
MOT tomorrow and all I was worried about was a chipped HeadLamp ...... now I read this from the MOT Testers Bible:-
"2. A silencer which is in such a condition or is of such a type that the noise emitted is clearly in excess of that which would be produced by a similar machine fitted with a standard silencer in average condition"
I have a NINJA BackBox which produces a louder rumble at idle than the standard box did ..... higher up the rev range the difference is negligible.
If the MOT is followed by the letter I could be doomed??
I have the Original in the garage so could swap simply enough - what do you reckon?

Don't you get 7 days for a free retest to sort any problems?
I'd send it in as is and if it fails swap it over - however you do need to be able to be without the car for another day, get it to the test centre etc
I know some people pass with 'aftermarket' exhausts but a lot of things tend to be down to how harsh the test centre is - for some the 'bible' is more of a guideline
Although from your other post they sound fairly strict

Well, you see, the NINJA BackBox was offered to me and I thought I would give it a go ..... nice burble at idle but acceptable on the Motorway.
Yes, it's a strict MOT Test Centre ..... but, thats not been a worry until now with the HeadLamp Chipped and a 4" BackBox rumbling away!!

What is a standard back box on a subaru for them to compare it to.
The twin pea-shooters, the STi UK spec, the STi Genome, the Prodrive, whatever they fit to a Type25 etc ?
Just charm them with your stunning wit and repartee

They wont fail it on the noise on idle, depends on whether the tester is an as***le or not, they will be only bothered on whether it will pass the emmisions test.

Each year I torture myself .... 3 cars, 3 MOTs ....
And, for 20 years there has been no real issues - but I HATE MOTs!! I would rather have Root Canal Treatment!! Really, I get that bad!!

Don't worry .... it's as far as I will allow myself to go .... the NINJA was offered to me, it would have been rude to have refused it

I was concerned about a 'droning' at Motorway speeds - but it's not at all bad.
The car sounds better with someone else driving it oddly enough with me stood outside!
But it burbles away nicely .... if your old box is shot then it may be worth buying a secondhand NINJA.

Just how long before someone offers you a cocklink and you just cannot resist the glow of the tiny LED's and the feeling that your ***** are finally being linked!
