What's wrong with the WR1?
Anything? Never driven one but thinking of getting one.
It’s just that their values seem to have plummeted (£400 this month officially) .
After 16 months they’ve only retained, on average, 54% of their cost new price, it seems. Crikey.

if you rate all your cars based upon the residuals and the 'official' depreciation then you'll go through life owning rubbish motors.
WR1 is one of the best subarus ever released in this country ... the drive is sensational, the noise is sensational, the look is sensational. Who gives a **** about the damn residual value ... you buy a car for you and not the person after you.
Just because a car appears to be depreciating at a heavy rate doesn't mean there is anything in anyway wrong with it.
Alfa's depreciate like nothing else i've ever seen ... but they are stunning cars and true works of art. True enthusiasts buy them because they care more about the driving experience then they do about what it's worth.

are you qouting book prices or market prices? most of the time they are a bit different
book might say a WR1 can be had for £17k private but you try to find a good one at that price! not saying they are not out there but it must be the only model (bar the 22b) that scooby owners don't sell for peanuts.
if it wasn't for the price i'd have one now myself

All exclusive cars are only exclusive until the new one comes around. Whether it is a limited edition scoob or the latest RS from Audi.
I personally think the WR1 was one of the better attempts of Subaru.
They did away with the teenage bits of the STi (gold wheels, blue interior) and mildly improved the overall package (DCCD, Prodriv suspension, extra power,...) making it it a nice cocktail of rally-rawness, ease to drive and pleasant looks.
Everybody will have his own opinion.
Despite never having owned a WR1, I can only say it's sure my prefered scoob.
As with all cars, if you want to make up your opinion, go and try one.
If looking for a bunch of enthusiasts, try the WR1 owners club: wr1oc.co.uk

One of the best UK models available, unfortunately it was a UK model
For what you get (warranty etc) they are worth the money, if you want something different then go for a JDM car, more power out of the box, better power delivery, nicer to drive as you get some nice "standard" items over the WR1 (HID lights for instance).
The only other thing to note is that high performance cars drop like a stone now, mainly due to running costs (high fuel prices dont do anything to keep residues up) so look around, bargains can be had )
