Default question: is it legal to have rally door numbers on your scooby.

Can anyone help i need to know is it legal or not to have rally numbers on your scooby doors when your vehicle is only used on public highways not for rallying.

There is a regulation stating door numbers can only displayed whilst taking part in an organised event on the public highway. At all other times they must be obscured. Best thing to do is to have a 2-3mm diagonal line through the number, this will keep it the right side of the law. It would take a serious @r$e of a copper to do you for it though.

Like this....

Put what you like on a car as long as it is not offensive or distractive to other drivers to anyone and the bizzies have no say in it.

BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have a msa competition licence (or want to get one) you will lose it for having numbers on your car whilst not competing in a registered event.

Can not find my blue book at the mo so can not tell you the actual regulation no.

Richard above is dead right.
You can buy for a BMW Mini from BMW a '69' number decal for the doors for road use.

But:
WHY would you want to drive around pretending to be a race car?

As a long standing competitor in motorsport I think this gives the wrong image of the cars and 'rally' drivers in general when seen on the road/high street/cinema car park....

That is a very good point.
My daughter (21years) was told that if she even put a pinstripe onto her car the insurance could be invalid! (seriously)

I still ask; why do you want to drive around with a race number on your car down the high street?
