I owned an early MY93 WRX for nearly 2 years and was probably the best car I've ever owned - Much better than my MY99 Uk Turbo 2000..
The early 93-94 cars came with 240bhp std which increases to 260bhp from 95 onwards ( correct me if i'm wrong )
If it's a fresh import you basicly have to buy on condition as all the service history "if there is any" will be in Japanese and will mean nothing. Look for signs of panel damage overspray etc and try to get a warranty as your more likley to be buying a fresh one from a dealer or trader.
If your looking into a car thats been in the uk for a while it's just like buying any other car. I'd just make sure it's had the usual cambelt change and regular oil changes useing quality oil - thats always a sign the owner has cared for the car - Receipts are good especially from scooby specialists not locals Bob garage..
You'll never be sure an import car reads the correct mileage again though judge on condition - steering wheel, gear **** and seat wear will be minimal on a 50k car, Just use basic commen sence and you can't go far wrong.
Hope that helps abit .

Try to find one that's already been rebuilt (by a reputable company). I didn't and even though it had been pampered all its life (FSH from being imported when brand new), the wear and tear over the years on the oil pump meant that oil was gradually not getting round the engine and the big end bearings let go.
